Tuffy Tailgate Lock Box - 2018 Jeep Wrangler JL

Sturdy box which you can easily install on your own. Can also be used as a table.

I was concerned about still being able to lay the hard freedom tops down flat in the back with this box installed. After I installed the box, I laid the hard tops in the back to see if the tailgate closed and it did not. Not a problem, just something to be aware of. The install was easy except one of the holes in the plastic trim didn't line up so I have an ugly mangled hole in the plastic trim that will never been seen, but it's there. The box itself mounts up sturdy, but it's thin steel so it has the "tin" or hollow sound. I took a can of spray on rubberizer and used the whole thing coating the inside, but I'll also probably get some rubber tool box drawer mats and cut them up to fit inside this. I'm actually pretty surprised at how good this is and it holds quite a bit which will be very handy in the summer when my wife wants to leave something locked up in the vehicle when we have the doors & roof off. Overall I like it and I think it would serve other people very well also.

Great unit and highly recommend. I put all my recovery gear, first aid kit and air compressor in this unit. My only concern is the relatively small (4) bolts that attach the unit to the rear door. Time will tell if the unit has any issues staying tight the door. the unit will slide over (albeit touching) a WeatherTech rear mat when opening or closing the reward door.

Took about 20 minutes to install. You will need to drill 4 holes in the plastic of your tailgate. I’ve had probably 8-10 different Tuffy products in different vehicles over the years, this is by far the flimsiest. There are only 3 welds on the top 2 pieces, so dust and water will just flow right in. It rattles so bad that I’m thinking about sending it back. The plus side is that I gained some lockable storage for the JL. That’s pretty much the only plus side. I wish Tuffy had put more R&D into this one.

As I like to take the top and doors of my Jeep Wrangler, security of things I like to always have on hand (e.g. First aid kit, winch control, air inflation equipment) is a primary concern. I had a similar Tuffy box on my CJ-7 years ago, and so quickly added on to my JL. The price is high, but the construction and piece of mind can't be beat!

High quality, sturdy, and holds a lot. Only draw back: ropes that hold lid up for a table top have already broken.

The box was great just modified the mounting. Wanted it to look better.
