Most of the ones I see are rubber/plastic. What is the advantage of the all stainless drains?

The plastic one made my tub drain too slow. It has 4 small holes on top for water to pass through. I prefer this one because the top is slightly raised and the water drains so much faster.

When i used this it made my tub fill up with water. Am I doing something wrong?

The black StopShroom is designed to make the tub fill with water (it's a drain plug). The TubShroom should allow the water to pass through smoothly. Does it fit into your drain completely with just the Mushroom "head" part outside of the drain?

I have a flat cover on my drain. What do I do?

Just unscrew the drain cap, and install the TubShroom

Some reviews had said its not universal. if i order and it doesn’t fit do i have to pay return shipping. thank you

In my experience with Amazon, they have always been helpful and make the return process as easy as possible. I'm going to buy this stainless TubShroom with stopper. If it doesn't work, I'll reach out to Amazon and make arrangements for UPS to come pick it back up.
