84075 White Proso Millet Wild Bird Food, 50-Pound

I make my own bird seed, bird treats, small pet food, and small pet treats (that was a mouth full). All of these are for domesticated animals- not wild animals (although we have done a few wild bird, vole, and mice rehabilitations with this mix). Needless to say one of the most common and well-liked seeds on the market today is millet. It's a universal seed that can be fed to any breed of seed-eating bird and rodent. It's often a favorite amongst those animals because it's nutrient rich and a bit fatty (in other words they crave it, and it tastes good to them).Because I make so many different items with millet I figured I better start looking for a bulk lot of it. I was ecstatic when I found this 50 pound bag on Amazon with free shipping! I couldn't purchase it fast enough. It came well-packaged in a box. The brown bag that it's packaged in is sewn shut and must be cut open with scissors. The millet inside is fresh, well-packed, uniform in color and shape, and overall just really great quality. There were no 'incidental seeds' mixed into the millet. No random sunflower seeds or anything like that. Just pure 100% white millet.The real test of freshness was with my pets. Would they like it? Would they eat it? Yes and yes! They loved this stuff. From our budgies to our cockatoo to our gerbils- this stuff gets eaten the second I put it in the cage. I've used it to make an array of treats and I've even thrown it out to the birds in the yard (who also happily munch this stuff up).I'm now a huge fan of Shafer. Very high quality seed in a sturdy bag at a great price. I couldn't have asked for a better deal. I'll definitely be back for more in the future.

I start ordering for the birds for winter. I know is still very hot summer but I will need a least 200lb so slowly I start ordering. Last year was my first year to feeding birds in winter and they love it only millet. It is very messy but is a joy to seeing them waiting for me every morning. The millet is as I expect it and delivery was fast. When I received I let the millet cool it because was warm and after that I store in airtight containers for the time when I will feed them. They are great for me.

The seeds arrived 1 day earlier than promised in perfect condition. The birds love it, I'll be back for more.THANK YOU.

The birds seem to eat this but the bag had a hole in it and the seed leaked out of the box and onto the floor and made a huge mess.

Large 50-pound bag of white proso millet arrived sealed, packed well inside an outer sturdy shipping box.Seed is high-quality, fresh, dry, clean, no mold was present, no extra debris mixed into the seed. I keep the bag stored inside the house during the summer months to avoid exposing the seed to heat and humidity where it can go rancid or moldy.As soon as we began putting the white proso millet out at our bird feeders and scattered on the ground, we noticed at least 12 additional bird species during migratory season here in the South. Most birds seem to love it, even the Northern Catbirds, who rarely eat seed at feeders.Other types of millet (red millet) is not so popular with birds. They really love the White Proso Millet.This is a great price per pound for white millet. This is the 2nd 50-pound bag if white proso millet I've purchased from the Shafer Seed Company and I have been very pleased with their product.I only put out enough seed for a day's worth of bird feeding. Extra seed will sprout overnight after rainstorms. Also, the seed is an attractant to rats at night near your home where they're known to do serious damage nesting and burrowing underneath the hood of cars and chewing on wires, or, climbing up shrubs growing next to houses and then getting into attics through vents and eaves, causing more damage chewing on everything, including more wires.
