IRWIN 1904P 3/8-18 NPT High Carbon Steel Pipe Tap

I needed a hole threaded and this got the job done. I have a shallow well pump at my lake house. every fall we close up and drain the water so the pipes don't burst. Well after about 15 yeas the plug hole rusted out enough that the 1/4 inch plug couldnt seat properly and it leaked like crazy. I tried dope but that didn't work and I was going to JB weld it but I decided to do it the right way. I got me a 37/64th drill bit and some 3/8 npt fittings and re-drilled and tapped that hole. It worked perfectly and now I have water at my summer place.

NICE !!!! Quick shipping, well packaged. After drilling holes in expensive, rare, DYNOSOAR valve covers ( installing breather box ), using oil and patience ( I was very reluctant to drill and tap 26 year old fragile aluminum valve covers ... but ... had to do it ) ... in vise along side garage ... this Vermont American Tap ( my preferred brand ) worked perfectly. Did both valve covers. Ran in a bit, backed out ..cleaned threads in valve cover, cleaned cutting blade on Tap. Repeat .. slow and careful. Loaned to a friend, he tapped a steel plate. Same results ... EXCELLENT !!!!

I needed a pipe tap to clean out some threads on a diesel engine fuel bowl, and this worked perfectly. It's not the greatest quality, but for the price it's a very good value. If I were a plumber I might pick something different but for occasional use it's just fine.

I did not have a tap handle (it seems to have gone awol), so used a spanner, but it cut through the side of 1/4" aluminum perfectly fine. Not sure about a harder metal as no need, but it's there waiting if it ever comes up, so if I have any problem, maybe i will remember where I got it and update the review. Most likely this will not happen though. :)

Mostly works, but I had some aluminum accumulation between its blades in spite of using lubricant, which I failed to remove (so to the garbage it went).

Used this for chasing 3/8 FIP threads on a antique lav faucet. Handy to have.

This is a nice pipe tap works great picture shows it is made in usa. well it is not it is made in china had I known this I would have purchased one made in the usa!!!. but it works great for installing 3/8 temp senders or sensors.

Simple tool to clean threads , works great and looks to be of good quality .
