Good quality, big heat sink, great replacement.
Bought this switch for my old, approx 35 - 40 yr old Emerson 30" direct drive whole house fan. Fan was working perfectly except Orig switch would not turn on or off normally, so figured it was switch. No OEM replacement available. After doing some research found this KBWC-110K variable speed switch. Fan motor was 5.7 amp & original switch was 6 amp. That switch did get warm during use, even with vented cover. I decided to get higher 10 amp switch for a safety margin. Installed new switch hoping I got the correct type. After installing switch it worked fine, On / Off & variable speed. Has big heat sink which should disperse heat much better. Fits in single wall electric switch, but snug fit. A word of caution, you can adjust variable speed minimum speed via a setting screw on switch. That is good so not have minimum too low & damage motor. After installing switch I found out fan would go, what I felt, was too slow on lowest setting. I did not test before finishing install. I doubt I will go through the trouble of adjusting the minimum, and just mark the control face plate to identify minimum speed I want it to run at. A hassle to remove switch & make adjustment. Switch is good quality, seems like should last quite a while.

Almost exact replacement
I have a whole house fan that is about 30 years or so, old. It came with a KB speed control with identical electrical specs ( 10 Amps Full loadd, 20 Amps locked rotor load), but its aluminum heat sink and control plate was only the width of a single gang switch plate. This new one has the visible items mentioned that are double the width. The next smaller model is rated for 8 Amps. This new one is still made by the same manufacturer! My original speed control failed after about 20 years of use, but its on/off switch was still able to turn the fan on at full speed, and turn it off. I guess the manufacturer finally decided that that the electronics in this unit would have a longer life with a double size heat sink. In any case, the unit works perfectly for me, and the electronic package at the rear, still is designed to fit into a single gang electrical box. For years, I just thought that the failed unit was not able to be replaced, but when I searched recently, there it was on Amazon, and at a great price too.

replacement part works!
This replacement was close match to the old part but it had a built-in on-off switch in the rheostat. Also had a ground wire which the original didn't have, most likely was required when the original unit was produced. So far it seems to be working fine on a cotton candy machine.

I previously had a smaller version of this for our whole-house fan for 15+ years. Though its 6A rating should've been sufficient for the fan (like 40% overkill), the control would get disturbingly warm. This 10A version doesn't have any noticeable increase in temperature with the operation of the fan, probably because the air flow by its heat sink, and that makes me much more confident.
