Ratchet to close is an awesome feature
Wonderful umbrella and I love the ratcheting aspect. At the push of a button it opens. Tested through wind, it works brilliantly. Closes at the touch of a button. And the ratcheting to collapse it into its original state is a lifesaver, helping anyone who may have trouble with their hand or arm strength. The only thing I would want differently is the wrap-around velcro which could be a little longer. But that is a very minor thing and does not detract from the great product that it is.

Large, sturdy, closes with dry side out, heavy for a travel umbrella
First, this is not a compact travel umbrella. At 17 ounces, 12” long, and 2.5” diameter it is one of the larger “compact” umbrellas. This would not be the best choice for traveling as much smaller and lighter options are readily available, but to keep in your car for that unexpected rain it may be the perfect choice. Due to its unique design, it folds up inside out so the dry side is out which is easier to manage when in and out of buildings during a rain. It opens easily just by clicking the button on the handle. Closing it is also fairly easy. A second click on the button on the handle and the umbrella collapses inside out but stays fully extended. This means that you keep a little dryer while closing your umbrella. Folding it back up is not quite as easy because all the ribs are now flopping around a bit, but the extra wide strap helps to keep the umbrella contained as you rotate the strap around to attach the Velcro. When that is done, you now need to collapse the handle. You can leave it extended or collapse it to any position, and it will stay in that position. When you collapse it all the way it will click, telling you it is in the fully closed position. Pushing it all the way in takes a bit of effort but because it stays in a partially closed position and doesn’t snap back open, even with the extra effort needed, it is reasonably easy to close. Getting cover back on is a bit of an effort as it is a VERY snug fit. I found I need to rotate the closed umbrella with my hand smoothing the folds and trying to make it as compact as possible and the cover can then be pulled on a little at a time. You may find this process a bit annoying and just forget the cover. I like the umbrella but wish the storage bag was just a little larger and the force to push the handle to fully closed was a little easier. Otherwise, this is a very good ‘large’ compact umbrella.
