This short story has just the right tone for this important and troublesome topic.
Another not so acceptable but equally poignant title for this book could be "I Want to Kill Dog Owners.""And Cats Too!" could be added to the title of this book. This easy to read book is probably the book that many of us have always wanted to write. The author presents his story clearly, with humor, and with great humility.I enjoyed every word of this book. The author is a really good writer. He can say a lot with a few words.I think that every dog or cat owner, or person who appreciates cats and dogs, should read this book.Balanced and informed pet ownership can make a pets life better, and can lead to better neighborhood harmony. My sincere thanks go to Mr. Cohen for writing this fine story.

Not good at all
This was supposed to be an amusing tale about the author's wife's dog. (Richard M. Cohen and Meredith Vieira) The dog's antics and dislike of Richard are the meat of the matter. I just didn't find it funny, and the title was hyperbole in extreme. I liked the author's autobiography which detailed his experience having MS and cancer, and think his wife is an intelligent reporter so I hoped I would enjoy this light read.I actually gave the book away.

Hilarious!
This book is so well-written and fast-paced that it's hard to put it down. Even a dog lover like me can appreciate this story, so don't let the title fool you! I highly recommend this book for anyone who has read any of Mr. Cohen's other work, and to anyone who lives in a household with both dog lovers and those who could care less about the canine(s) under foot. This was both very humorous and quite poignant wrapped together.

The war between my husband and the dog
Was the author hiding in my house when he wrote this book? I can relate 100 percent to everything in this book. Everything in this book has happened in my house. My husband loves our dog, but when it comes down to it he knows he takes the back seat and the dog always wins. This book is great for an easy read, and it is super funny. However, the humor will not apply to everyone. Also, it is a little on the expensive side for the size of the book.

Not another Marley
I expected this book to be light hearted and funny..... I was disappointed. I really felt that Mr Cohen truly does not like the dog and never will. That is OK I certainly have been around some obnoxious dogs, and even being an animal lover I know how annoying some people's dogs can be when they are allowed to take over the household. but it really does not make for a good story.....it s just sounds like complaining with no solution in site.

the 1 star reviews are ridiculous! Very humorous and a joy to read
First of all, let me say, I am a review reader. I read reviews on every purchase I make so I can atleast say I made an educated buy. The single star reviews only made me want to read it more.I am a dog groomer by day and an owner of three dogs, one cat and various farm animals. I love my job and my dogs but have a special empathetic ear for the things he says. My husband ( a big, muscular, manly guy) has a pomerian named Tommy. Tommy looks down on everyone else in the family (even though most of the time I feed him and let him in and out). He will not come out for me during the day when I'm home. Yet, somehow knows when my husband gets home and is waiting by the door. Tommy leaps into my husband's arms and looks back at me with tears in his eyes as if to say "she is the horrible one"I get it!! We only exist in Tommy's world to serve him! Now,that being said, we all truly love the dog. All the things we say about him are purely for fun (and to make us feel a little better). My son jokingly calls Tommy "the smug little bast#@d" Does it mean we really hate the dog? NO!This book is the work of a family, even though Richard was the author. Good or bad, pets bring us together. At their house the dog being a source of annoyance for Richard and pride for Meredith is what makes it work for everyone. At my house, the guys "hate" my cat and we "hate" the dog. This book was fun to read and full of sarcasm, love and humor!

I Want to Kill The Dog
A very amusing and honestly written book. Richard Cohen is a very droll guy with a wry sense of humour and I guess he needs these qualities to keep up with Meredith, who I always loved and now, after reading the book, love even more..... That being said and please consider that I am a great dog lover, I really understand how he feels!!

Again!
Once again, I'm fooled into buying a glorified pamphlet. Make the cover extra thick. Make the font REALLY BIG. Add as many illustrations as possible, even if they're not good. These are all signs of a glorified pamphlet. But the kicker? Hardcovers that are smaller than Mass Market Paperbacks. To boot - the story sucks. If I had to guess, I'd say the author is simply doing his best to cash in on the trend for pet related literature. The synopsis promised laughs, but the reality - disappointment.
