Fantastic mini pc proper desktop replacement performance
The short version: If you need a compact, capable PC for productivity, media and even gaming the M8 delivers. I've been using this for about a week across everything from my regular BAU office work, to Genshin Impact and it's really handled everything i've thrown at it. Unboxing & Whats included: GMKTec's packaging is clean, well organised and presented quite well. Inside you get the M8 unit itself, a power brick with UK cable, HDMI cable, warranty information. Everything is sealed and in perfect condition, and the colour scheme of the PC itself looks smart on a desk. First boot & Setup: Windows 11 Pro came as completely clean install, no bloatware, no unneeded software pre-loaded. Just a fresh windows setup wizard. Took me about ten minutes to get through initial configuration and I was ready to go. Really appreciated not having to spend an hour uninstalling useless software. Or fresh flashing windows. Connectivity: Serious it's well eqipped You can read the product description and get the idea of the port situation, but it's been covering everything for me. I've had it hooked up too a 4k monitor + 240hz 1080p monitor and not a lick of delay. Performance Testing: I did Geekbench 6 testing and CrystalDiskMark CPU: Single Core - 1976, Multicore - 7,877 GPU: 14,415 Storage: Sequential Read - 3564MB/s Write - 2677 Mbs These are really solid numbers, the Ryzen chip inside really trading blow with some desktop chips here which is impressive for something of this size. Real World Use: Office/Productivity: I spent the week using this for actual work, documents, spreadsheets, jira multiple tabs, video calls. Never felt sluggish, never had to wait for anything. Coding: VS code, running local dev enviroments, docker containers, all handled without complaint. Compilation times are respectable for the form factor. Media: 4K Youtube and local video playback, is entirely smooth no dropped frames, no stuttering Gaming: Heres where I was geniunely shocked, fired up genshin impact set up everything to high, and maintained a solid 60fps throughout. The 680m punches well above its weight. If you needed some triple A backup power, there is also the OCUlink option, being able to connect an external GPU is a huge dub for an already winning machine. Thermals & Noise: Under normal use its near silent, pushing it with benchmarks and gaming and the fan spins up but its not obnoxious just a gentle whoosh noise and the thermals stayed well controlled in my testing/use. Whos this for? Anyone wanting a proper desktop experience without the bulk. Home Office users, media centre builds, light gaming setups or if oyu just want to reclaim desk space tbh. Verdict: This is my second GMKTec device and they've nailed it again (I have the GMKPlus n150 which you'll see in my rack) excellent build quality, clean software, performance that surprises for its size, dual 2.5gbe ports make it interesting for network/homelab as well as the expandability via OCUlink. Highly recommended. Threw in some genshin footage on high, so you can see how it looks, and a quick mouse spin to show the lack of frame drop

Great second mini PC from GMKTec
Great mini PC. Bought this to replace general home working PC after purchasing the K11 for my son (which is fantastic). No issues so far. Easy setup.

Even in death I Serve The Omnissiah
In the times of our word falling apart, the computer components apocalypse, the shortages and the extortionate prices whatever is left in the shelf, I have seen this PC witch is half size of xbox 360 but oh... this boi, the force is stong with one... Best intuitive decision in the moment of critical decision making time I have ever made. For the tech savvy I dont have to explain you the performance, but I can tell you you get every penny worth if it comes to good old formula (performance per price) If there is anything left good from AAA gaming yeah just throw at it it will fly through it. If you want locally running LLMs well just throw at it, it is surprisingly good! It is just overall great design and performance machine with surprisingly good quality, this is pure example that the old theory of cheap Chinese goods is dead. This is premium device but dont be fooled itvis fragile and you need to give some love if you want it last it long. My suggestion if you already spend so mutch dont be stingy buy highest grade thermal putty and phsechange thermal pad. Apply it it will work cool and quiet during heavy loads 75c max. Another advice throw out this mediatek horrible wifi module and get yourself good old intel wifi6 for £20 install it belive me it is an upgrade. Now one warning be careful with the board it is fragile. The pc have only one board and this is all thats your 2k there. when I was disassembing this PC my hands was shaking like a "B" disposer be really careful what you doing do bot rush, Australian painter did rush and did not work out for him to good. Right I see you on the battlefield brothers :D

For older monitors require active DPORT to DVI adapter cable.
Maybe I am too generous with 4 stars, but it worked out eventually. Bough this PC for an elderly lady that I was helping out. I have reinstalled Windows from scratch and straight away faced an issue of drivers. Had to exchange few emails with the support in order to obtain a link to drivers downloads. Initially their support website did not have the driver's for this model. So drivers sorted tried to connect two monitors. The HDMI worked, but the Dport did not. The monitors that lady had are a bit older and only have VGA and DVI ports, so had to buy an active DP (computer side) to DVI (monitor side) converter cable. The PC itself works fine, but from purchase to usage took a while. I have no idea how will it perform in the future. The small factor is great, does not clutter the desk. At this moment in time the fans are silent, which is a great feature.

Basically, I tried to do everything I could to test this unit and see if it stumbled in any way. I have not been able to make it stumble so I am very pleased with this purchase. I love the small size and because of it I may just keep components in several places and just transport the small box as my portable computer. It has plenty of power for the type of work I do, which is normal homeowner type of uses. It has all the ports I could use or anticipate needing. It has a DP Port (Display Port) which is used to string multiple monitors together. I haven’t considered this in the past, but may in the future and it will be nice to have the option with this machine. Some of the USB ports I’m using could be freed up by using Bluetooth components. I would recommend this computer for people looking for an alternative to laptops or towers and the price is right considering what you get. It also appears to me that upgrading to larger RAM and Storage may not be necessary as the cloud appears to be taking over. I upgraded my other mini to larger RAM and a 1 terabit drive. But after using this unit I’m not sure it is necessary. All in all I can’t say anything negative about the unit. I’m very pleased! Keep reading for additional detailed description. This is my second minicomputer from GMKtec. I purchased one about 1 year ago. It worked well but the SSD crashed. The company worked with me, and I was able to replace the SSD, and rebuild the software and it has been working ever since. So, they have been responsive and stand behind their products. I had a need for a second computer so spotted this and decided to give it a chance. The unit came nicely packaged and intact. All the items listed were in the package as advertised. The difference with the minicomputer is that all the peripherals are not included. I have many of the peripherals so it is not an issue for me but be aware that if you don’t you need a monitor (I’m using a small TV I had), a keyboard (I bought a $13 USB one) and a mouse (I already had one). After acquiring the components, you literally just plug the components in and turn it on. The first thing you notice is how fast the screen comes up. Remember when you would turn your computer on then go get some coffee and hope it was up and running? Not so here it is a fast boot up. It went through some introductory screens and askes you some questions. The only one that gave me hesitation was the password one. It turns out this is to log into the computer every time you turn it on. So, make that a simple one to remember. I didn’t but went in to change it later. It comes loaded with Microsoft Windows 11 After that I started downloading software and Apps, all the ones that I use. I had no difficulty or problems with any of them. I connected it wirelessly through my home router with no difficulty. It comes with the latest wifi-6. I’m connected with 2.4 GHz channel and get 55 Mbps download and 33.42 Mbps upload. I know this depends on your systems but shows that there is plenty of speed. The minicomputer unit is 1.5 inches high and 3 3/8 inches square (see picture). Plenty of USB ports and if necessary, you can put a USB expander in one port. I used the headphones jack to listen to some music and connected my Bluetooth ear buds also both worked with a hitch and there is no lag or distortion. The package also comes with an angle support so you can hang it on the back of the monitor. This cleans up the area and make the monitor appear to be an all in one. I loaded Microsoft 365, a mechanical drawing program, iTunes and quicken and used them thinking that they may put the unit to a test for speed and any potential problems. There were none and it performed flawlessly. I have some “sleep” issues with the other unit, but this unit goes to sleep and wakes up with no issues even if left for a long period and with the monitor disconnected. Another improvement I noticed was that they have changed the way they screw the cover on. On my previous unit you had to remove the rubber feet to access the screws, and this will eventually cause problems with them coming off. This newer unit has the screws accessible trough the feet. This is much better for those looking to do any upgrading.
