Freeway 2 ..... is it '2' much?
Freeway 2 : Confessions of a Trickbaby. With none of the original cast from Freeway, writer/director Matthew Bright is playing on the success of Freeway to promote Freeway 2: Confessions of a trickbaby. Understandably the sequel is reminiscent of Freeway, but seems to have taken the successfull elements and pushed them to their very limits. As it stands this film documents the journey of 'White Girl' (natasha lyonne) and 'Cyclona' (maria celedonio). They escape from a juvenile prison and hit the road in search of Sister Gomez, a mexican nun and childhood friend of Cyclona. On their journey, Matthew Bright highlights everthing corrupt about society. The girls become lovers and endulge in bullumia, necrophilia, murder, theft, fraud, you name it - they do it. Its questionable whether its a bit TOO much. I don't think so, I laugh at some of the girls antics and Bright never fails to trivialise their seriousness and highlight them in the funniest of ways. Bear in mind the fairytale of Hansel and Gretel as you watch this film and then you will understand its true purpose. The film is clever and a must see for all fans of black comedy.

Intelligent mondo trasho
As well as what the other reviewers said, this film is a pretty biting social commment on the US justice system, a theme also big in Freeway (Matthew Bright's earlier cult movie, of whichthis is a kind of semi-sequel). This is pretty hard to define, being violent, sad, funny, harrowing and just weird by turn, and seeming to jump from B-movie spoof to gritty crime drama to black comedy to even sort of a love story (though about as twisted a sort as you get), before suddenly going off on a kind of weird horror tangent, as the Hansel and Gretel idea comes back into it in a pretty big way (it reminded me a lttle of FromDusk Till Dawn in that way). It sounds like a disjointed mess that wouldn't work, but it's not- good directing keeps it together, while the terrific acting moves really things along(especially from Maria Celedonio, who I've never seen in anythingelse), while at the same time as all this, you get the impression of (the writer/directors) personal opinions too, as anyone who's familiar with the real life cases of Aileen Wuornos or the Menendez brothers may notice a couple of parralels in the story.Generally, you would either love this film (like me) or hate it,but you really wouldn't forget it easily. I heard someone say that some people would overrate this, but more would probably underrate it, and I'd second that, and suggest anyone sees this to make up their own minds.

Interesting movie, tech-quality disappointing.
Interesting movie, deserves better technical treatment. Especially bad noisy sound on this edition, blurred dialogs - not on purpose, I guess...

Acquired audiences only!
After seeing the original I thought maybe this could only get better. It doesn't.I despise the movie.I don't even see how it's a re telling of Hansel and Gretel.I found the movie just to be like an orgy trip of violence, drugs and black comedy.

Off the rails
Crystal, or White Girl as everyone calls her, gets banged up for 25 years for posing as a prostitute in order to rob her clients at gunpoint. In the joint she meets Cyclona, a lifer murderess, and the two hatch a plan to break out of jail and escape to Mexico in the hope of finding Sister Gomez, Cyclona's childhood guardian angel. Nothing is quite as it seems though in this wild fairytale slay ride that sees the two girls having more and more bizarre adventures as their odyssey takes a turn for the darkly comic worse.Following on from Freeway, Matthew Bright has taken a step back from the glossier look of the first film and chosen an altogether more undrground approach to its quasi-sequel. Freeway was a twisted offbeat take on Little Red Riding Hood, Freeway 2 is his bizarre vision of Hansel and Gretel, and what a bizarre vision it is too. Taking in elements of extreme violence, gross-out humour and teenage angst we see our two heroines indulging themselves in solvent abuse, murder and masturbation. It's a oddball fairytale that's never less than entertaining in an unpredictable whacked-out world-spun-on-its-head kind of way. The film is a great example of how bad taste played just right can be an endearing prospect. With Freeway 2 Bright flips the bird to political correctness and spits in the eye of convention, there isn't a single likeable character in the film, from it's bulemic badass and psycho-dyke leads, through transvestite kiddie-touching nuns, to it's authoritarian Feds and corrupt lawyers, but this, of course, only adds to the films appeal. Think Natural Born Killers meets The Doom Generation whilst sniffing glue at Pee Wee Hermans house and you might go some way towards coming up with a pidgeonhole for this film. It's a road movie that serves up nothing more than 90 minutes of bloody, spaced out, barefaced bad taste fun and makes no apologies for it.
