Scotts Turf Builder Grass Seed Quality All-Purpose Mix for Sunny and Shady Areas, 20 lbs.

First off, for 20 lbs, this is the best "name brand" grass seed - actual grass seed - there is. Others come with filler, and food, and fertilizer, etc. This is ACTUAL seed. 20 lbs worth. Can easily cover 5,000 sqft. 8,000 sqft is pushing it though.Secondly, this grows in thicker and greener, and even in shade. It's perennial. In areas that I put this down last year, I don't see any clover, dandelion, or weeds. This is as advertised, actual thick turf. I'm in New England (RI which is a mild winter, but still New England) and this grass tolerated the cold well and shot right back up come Spring. Repeat purchase for me to start overseeding areas to match where I already put this down. To note that I said it was greener - it's a bright green shade of grass. Not dark green like the graphics on the bag. It's a bright, almost lime green. I guess this is fescue/"turf". Those who are going for that dark green bluegrass or ryegrass, this is much different.

I have been purchasing this seeds for years. It never failed me. When I could not use all in one season, I keep it in the garage and use it next year. They were still good.

Spread over nothing but dirt, sprouted in 2 weeks. Grew very tall and thick, i spread some crab grass halter and killer. And it seems like half of the grass died...ill try another bag, if i can get 50% more grass out of it ill be in good shape.

Where was this seed years ago and why doesn't our local home goods and landscaping stores carry this seed? Our yard now looks like green velvet and thick with no open areas and yes we have dogs. We thatched first, then fertilized with seed starter, and then seeded. We additionally as per directions adjusted our irrigation watering system to go on 3 times per day in the newly seeded areas for 8-12 minutes for the first 6 weeks and whala a beautiful thick green lawn ! Do the work follow the directions and you won't be sorry .

I repair heat-damaged grass area of my lawn almost every year. Since the damaged area is too big, the quality and price are my concern. Initially, I was very hesitant to order this product because of the negative reviews. However, because of my positive past experience with many negatively reviewed products, I decided to take the risk! It took 6-7 days to start seeing nascently beautiful grass covering my bare lawn. The key success for germinating grass seeds are preparing the lawn area for cultivation and selecting the right covering soil. Without removing the dead grass and waiting enough time for the soil to recover from weed control chemicals, poor/no germination is expected. Using seed covering soil that absorbs water and keep the seeds surrounding with mositure is required. Highly recommended product!

Seeds are not sprouting well.

How is this over $100 all of a sudden? It was $56 when I purchased on May 19th 2025. It was also $56 two previous times prior to that. Seems like some serious gouging going on from Scott's. The seed is great. Works as advertised. I've already given two great 5 star reviews. I unfortunately have to give a 1 star now due to the absolutely unjustified increase in cost. There's no way this doubled in 2 weeks time. My local store has it for $62. If it's an inventory issue. Scott's needs to rethink their priorities. This type of price gouging is all too common nowadays, and absolutely unacceptable. Customer first!

Seed and watch it grow! My yard was bare dirt and now it's as green as a golf course. I have to say the soil you start with will make a big difference. If soil quality is poor to begin with, combine this seed with Scotts Turf Builder Lawn Fertilizer. It works it's magic! I'm now on my second 20 pound bag filling in areas that I initially missed. Seed, rake and water. Heat and sun will help it grow faster but too much sun and not enough water can reverse the whole process. Overall I'm completely sold on this product.
