Mid-Life Crisis
First off I have had this set for a little over a year, but I did order it from Amazon and as I remember it did come in a good time and was definately in good condition. The only problem was the Season Three set had a broken holder in the case. (I don't know what you really call it, its the little 'toothed' thing that the DVD disc rests on.) The disc itself was fine, and I just keep it in a DVD envelope inside the Season Three case. All of the discs were in good condition and they all played fine. The only other small complaint I have is that in Season One, sometimes the picture wavers just a little, its not bad enough to hurt the viewing for me, it just kind of looks like the picture is underwater for just a second or two. And the overall quality of the tranfer of Seasons One and Two is not as high as the later seasons...such as spots over the picture or scratches on the picture. In other words, sometimes Season One and Season Two looks twenty some years old.The white case that the dics come in is really sturdy and has a nice velvetlike or suedelike turquiose colored lining. And if you know "Miami Vice" you will understand why the case is done in an alligator skin pattern. If you don't, you will find out when you watch the show.Any how, I used to watch "Miami Vice" back in the day, but I can't say I was a huge fan and did not watch it much in the last two seasons. But about a year ago, I was listening to '80's music on the radio and got to thinking about the show. So when I found the complete series on Amazon I had to have it. I was glad I did buy the whole series, because for all these years I thought the main characters were killed in the series finale.I have really enjoyed watching "Miami Vice" again. I have a Blu-Ray player and although these dics are not Blu-Ray, my player upgrades them and they look great. All the pastel colors of the earlier seasons and the lovely beach scenery just pops! And as far I can remember all of the original songs are there. This was the show of the '8o's.So for anyone who is having a mid-life crisis (LOL) like me or who just wants to get a taste of the fashions and music of that time then I highly recommend you get "Miami Vice" and watch it.

Gotta love Miami Vice!
I got this Miami Vice DVD box-set for $45 as a birthday present to myself back on 2010. Every disc from every season works perfectly. Every episode looks and sounds fantastic. My wife and I just re-watched most of season 1 very recently. The main reason I was thrilled with this DVD box-set is because I when I first got all the individual seasons by themselves season's 3 and 5 didn't work very well. So I returned. I later sold season's 1, 2, and 4 to someone because they worked fine. But this Miami Vice box-set must have been lucky or something because everything works very well. It's really too bad that there wasn't better consistency in quality for a lot of the early MV DVD releases. Hopefully they've fixed the problem since it's 2018. Miami Vice is easily one of the best shows ever on TV. Some many shows, even to this day, have "borrowed" storylines and visual/sound production ideas from Miami Vice. The show literally inspired a couple of generations of similar cop shows. Crockett & Tubbs are so often copied yet never ever matched. Shows like NCIS and CSI to movies mega franchises like Fast & Furious... think about it. Don Johnson is a legend and like all legends gets a bad rap among some people. If you were a young dude growing up in the 80s you wanted to either be Don Johnson or Eddie Van Halen and have a James Bond girl for your girlfriend. Lmao! Its actually really amazing how much the 80s have and still continue to influence the modern era of TV/DVD/Streaming content. For some reason people still love to relive one of/if not the greatest decades of the last 100 years... in my humble opinion. That being said, I hope you enjoy the Miami Vice experience. Season's 1, 2, and 4 are my favorites. However, the first 35-40 episodes of the show are the mid 80s cranked to 11 just the way I like it.

Miami Vice : Complete Series Box Set
I haven't watched this show since it was on in the 80's and rewatching it after more than 20 years has been so enjoyable. This show was so well made, film, camera work, acting of the leads. Some of the stand alone episodes weren't that great but this is always the case of any long running show. Don Johnson was brilliant as Sonny Crockett and I always enjoyed Phillip Michael Thomas as Ricardo Tubbs. The two actors played so well together. There are suggestions that Don Johnson was a prima donna but when you watch this show, you do realise that he was the perfect actor for the role and simply did push the quality of the show up. I love Edward James Olmos as Castillo. He and Don Johnson played really well off of each other. This show defined what was happening at the time and was very reflective of the indulgent mentality of the 80's and it has been an absolute pleasure watching it again. This is a show that truly does stand the test of time. Watch this and, excepting the development in film technology now, I think you would be hard pressed to name 6 shows today that could match up to the quality of work that was "Miami Vice".

Coolest Show of the 80's
So far I've only made it through Season 3 of Miami Vice. I was a huge fan of this series back in the 80's. All 5 seasons are in this boxed set and I found the price to be a decent one compared to other sellers. The box is made to resemble alligator skin and is white. If you remember, Crockett had a pet alligator named Elvis on his boat. The quality of the discs has been okay if a bit grainy but that hasn't been a big issue with me. My biggest beef is that one of the discs (Season 2, disc 4, episode 14) had several "bad spots" in it and froze up on me. I had to fast forward through those places, which was annoying. All in all, so far, I've been happy with the set and hearing some of the sound tracks, reliving the episodes, etc has been worth a few "bad spots." For that reason I could not give this a 5 star.

Surprisingly good.
As a child of the 70's, I remember fondly watching this show in my 'formative teenage years'. As such I was slightly worried that the 'campness' of the 80's would ruin my memories of this show. However, I was pleasantly surprised. Sure some of the outfits and fashions are a little cringe-worthy, and the way that certain characters act (not the acting, however) can be a bit hammy. But for those of us that remember that time period, I recall people wearing their jackets with the sleeves rolled up and the HUGE amount of pastel colours and neons in the clothing.None of this - in my opinion, at least - detracts from what is a well written and well acted show. The show also benefitted from Michael Mann's involvement; a lot of the stylised look of Miami Vice comes from him and can also be seen in his later work - Manhunter, Heat, and the film Miami Vice. One of the earliest episodes has Crockett and Tubbs, driving the Daytona Spyder at night through near deserted streets to the strains of Phil Collins' "In the air tonight". The only sound was the sounds of the guns being loaded and the minimal dialogue of the characters. The whole scene just built tension and the seriousness of what was to come. Overall, really enjoying it all over again. The packaging is really smart too and doesn't look unsightly on a shelf with lots of other DVD's/blu-ray's.If you remember this show, but are unsure of how it has aged; accept it for what it is - a show set in, and from the 80's - and sit back and enjoy.

Some people have given this a poor review because they don't like the show content
Some people have given this a poor review because they don't like the show content, in which case I don't understand why they purchased the set in the first place. I was a teenager in the 80s and I remember the huge impact that this show had on the nation, changing how people dressed and acted. The 80s soundtrack is fantastic for those of us who lived through it first time around and I have been amazed at how little I remember of the story-lines, so it's like watching a new show. It is also fascinating to see all the guest appearances from people who, at the time, were pretty much unknown, but now are very successful actors. I am really enjoying it. If you remember enjoying it first time around, then I am sure you will really enjoy revisiting it.

Fantastic Series
I always enjoyed watching this series the first time round, back in the 1980s. So when I found the full box set could be bought for a reasonable price recently I jumped at the chance and bought it before the price changed. I am a huge fan of Don Johnson, I think he was georgeous back then and my opinion has not changed, it's him and his caring way that comes across strongly which gives the episodes such a sense of being real. It has been said in the past that it was this concept of stylish dressing and fast sports cars that really put Miami on the map, and took the whole idea of cops and robbers away from being just people with no dress sense and tatty transport. So I would recommend this series to anyone who enjoys fast action adventures, it's certainly good for that.

The use of locations is brilliant, and the city streets glisten at night...
One of my favourite box sets. The best episodes are just about as good as it can get. The high standard cannot possibly be maintained throughout such a long run, especially as some episodes try to be deliberately challenging. This contrasts with, for instance, The Shield where there is a uniformly high standard throughout, but no episode quite leaves the lasting impression that some of the Miami Vice episodes leave. The use of locations is brilliant, and the city streets glisten at night.

Bring back the 80s please!!!
After watching the first 2 disks I had to write to say that I'd forgotten just how good this was! The music is amazing, the script is fast paced and witty and even though its 30 years old it really hasn't dated too badly....and of course what can I say about Don't Johnson! Probably the most gorgeous man on TV then and not sure there's anyone now to beat him! Not many men can make a powder blue suit look that sexy!!! I'm going to savour this box set!! :-)
