No Steel! NO RUST! One Person Installation IS Possible!
I love that there is no steel to rust! It actually looks like a speckled Bronze (which I prefer)I installed it to my wooden deck. I did it by myself (female). DO NOT ATTEMPT IF WINDY!!!Use two ladders and a level. Put together one side, lay it down, and measure end to end. use one of the other base plates to mark the holes for drilling. USE zinc bolt screws. Then coat with silicone caulk to prevent rust, then attach the 3rd pole to base plate, attach loosely the Right outer track so it swings and rest on ladder or on top of front right pole. The rest just comes naturally.Took about 4-5 hours I took my time and paced myself. (I prefer to work alone, so I can actually hear myself think.)This is a British Company. I wanted to contact them. I wanted to see if I could find a replacement canopy (when this one wears out) - NO LUCK! I'll probably have to sew my own!Quote from copy " Made by Rowlinson Garden Products, an English family business that has been in business since 1926. "1 year later: Still standing and hasn't fallen apart despite the extreme winds. The canopy mechanism should be sprayed with silicone to enable it to glide freely on the tracks.

Not worth the money or headache to put together.
This pergola is cheap made and not good. Do not buy this one. Comes from China, not England; instructions are not good, and quality is poor also. The shade does not slide the whole way open with the pull string, which is also hard to pull. Overall it's just a cheaply made product and not worth the price. Our first one was damaged, Amazon was great with getting us a new one though. However it's just not a good product in my opinion. Metal is thin and could bend easily, and I'm not sure how well it will hold up to the weather. After one night one bolt head was starting to corrode.

Two Stars
Very poor building instructions... poor quality. Buy another version.

Nice looking / poor quality.
It is OK but overpriced. Silver bolts stand out but can be creatively disguised. Certainly not good or solid quality so avoid leaning on it! Needs to be anchored.

Horrible product.
Horrible product. Instructions were extremely bad, the material is soft and you have to be really careful not to over tighten the screws. Canopy could never open properly, I had to step on a chair and adjust it every time I had to open it. The first strong wind killed it. I wasted money and time.Don't buy.

High price for poor quality!!
The Good: The aluminum parts will not rust. Nice color, speckled dark gray/charcoal, not black. Delivery was very quick, 2 days. The Bad: Very pricey at current price of $589.99. I purchased from another vendor when it was on sale and with a $15. off coupon for $473.99, still expensive at that price. It is manufactured in China, not the United Kingdom as stated in the listing. The listed dimensions, 9.8’W x 9.8’D, are the measurements from tip to tip of the outer rafters. From outer leg to outer leg it is 8.6’ square, and the canopy is only 7.8’W’x 8.0’L.Although mine was shipped from only one state away, and the box was in very good condition, there were dents, dings, and scratches in the paint on the main legs (see pics). The damage was obviously done during manufacturing or packing. Rowlinson is an ISO 9001 QC certified company. Did they fail their last certification? In addition, 6 of the M6 x 16mm bolts were missing. I emailed Wayfair several days ago about the missing screws. No response yet.The instruction manual is woefully bad. From the manual, “The instruction sheet is only a guide to the assembly”. More like a puzzle that you have to solve. It comes with a bag of washers. Don’t forget to use them. They are not mentioned at all in the instruction manual. You will also need a file to deburr the drilled holes in the rafters before you couple them, manual’s wording not mine, (see pic) and a rubber mallet. I used a silicone spray on the unpainted part of the rafters but still needed the mallet to couple them. The center track tubes also had to be deburred before attaching the canopy rods. When you get to step 4 the back outer rafter is the one with the extra holes in it, see pic in step 7. In the first part of step 4 it’s much easier to attach the 2 outer rafters to the legs on the ground. Place something under the top of each leg, i.e. a 2x4, to prop it up.I pre-sprayed all of the bolts with WD-40. Some of the holes were misaligned. (see pic). I was very lucky that I did not strip out any of the main rafters’ bolt holes. DO NOT use any power tools. I used 4mm and 6mm 3/8” Allen sockets and a ratchet to tighten the bolts, much faster than using the supplied Allen wrenches. For the price, all the bolts and screws should be stainless steel or at least painted black. They are not. The track runners, the center track tubes, the 2 fixed canopy tubes, and the 8 canopy tubes are also steel and over time will rust. The canopy tubes are ~48” long so if you are placing the pergola parallel to your house or a wall make sure there is enough clearance to insert them. The pergola must be perfectly square and level or the canopy will bind when opening and closing. I sprayed the tracks and runners with a silicone spray.I bolted the pergola down to my deck (see pic) with the bolts provided. I paid for them so I used them, but I suggest, and they are expensive, to use stainless steel bolts. Even bolted down it is still flimsy and I would not lean on it. Plastic bolt caps are not provided for the outer rafter bolts. I painted all the silver bolt and screw heads with an exterior acrylic black paint. Michaels or Hobby Lobby has a 2-ounce bottle of Americana all surface exterior/interior acrylic satin black for $1.69.This can be assembled by one person. I did it, but recommend you use a helper. It took me ~5-6 hours, not counting the extra time to paint the bolt heads and a couple of rain delays.Aestically, IMO, this pergola is very plain looking compared to the cheaper Constantine 9 Ft. W x 9 Ft. D Pergola by Coolaroo.Would I purchase this again or recommend it to a friend. NOT at this price and quality.

Great product, frustrating build instructions.
I was worried when I read other reviews that this canopy would be flimsy or difficult to erect. I was pleased that it isn't flimsy, however the build instructions leave out a few important details, which meant that I had to almost completely start from scratch at one point. The two end cross bars look on the instructions to be identical, which they aren't. The bar with more holes is the end which the canopy affixes to, which I got at the wrong end, of course, so had to take all of the cross beams off again to swap the pieces over. A few choice words were directed at the manufacturers. Also, other reviewers have said that they had to drill out holes. I suspect that all they needed to do was loosen off the screws in the inserts of the cross beams, so that the insert could be moved slightly, which would have meant the holes would align, allowing the screws to be inserted.I have screwed the legs to some decking and I think it looks great and the canopy pulls backwards and forwards fairly easily, just needing a slight tug when it gets to the join of the bars in the centre. All in all very happy with this purchase, just a few niggles with the build instructions.

Great buy
We are very satisfied with this canopy, it fits perfectly in the small space where it was installed. The installation was easy.

Good product - so long as you can think beyond instructions a bit
We bought this last month direct from Amazon. It says 1-3 days delivery for Prime but I think it took 8 days in the end from order to arrival. It all comes in one box and each individual part is wrapped up in lightweight foam wrapping which should prevent most damage. However one of the legs was dented right at the bottom to the extent to end plate couldn't fit in. Being made of aluminium it's nice and light and easy enough to bend back so a couple of whacks with a hammer sorted that out. It didn't bother us as we knew it was about to be sunk into the foundations of our new patio - so out of sight - but if you had it on the surface it would have looked damaged. Despite that one piece of damage and the aluminium material it still comes across as quite sturdy once constructed. As others have said the instructions are definitely towards the vague end of the spectrum. There's often enough of a hint to get you going in the right direction but at times we were just left scratching our heads trying to work out what was needed to get from one bit to the next. The pictures that are provided are perfectly clear...it's just as if some steps have been missed in the haste to move on to the next stage. For example the last thing to do is to install the canopy. The instructions show how to put it together and fix it to the frame - they don't tell you that a couple of stages before that the beam that runs across the top and holds the pulley system needs to be a specific way around to make it actually operate correctly. It fits on either way so it's only by fitting it all together and finding the pulley doesn't work that you then have to spend 20 minutes undoing it all and fitting the beam back on the other way around. Neither of us are experts in garden furniture or putting things together and I think we got it all done in a leisurely 4 hours. It's definitely a two person job.Frustrating at times but all in all nothing terminal. We got there in the end and if you don't over-tighten everything initially it's easy enough to undo a bit and try again a slightly different way. The only other negative thing I would point out is the allen keys provided with the kit are naff and bend too easy. Make sure you have a set of your own to hand if possible.Overall it's a decent product. The canopy material itself seems to be good quality, visitors have said they like it and even the guys doing the patio work were impressed with the whole structure and wanted to know where we got it from. I don't think you will beat it for the price. I would give it 3.5 stars if I could due to the damaged leg and poor instructions but on balance with full stars only it's definitely a 4 rather than a 3.

CAN’T GET REPLACEMENT COVERS!!!!
I love the product but so disappointed that we can’t buy a replacement canopy rendering product useless. We’ve always taken ours down and stored carefully in the winter but it’s now wearing and holes appearing. Other brands offer replacements. Won’t be buying anything from Rowlinson again. I note they’re still selling this gazebo!! Will have to pay the full cost of buying a whole new gazebo.
