SEDUCTIVE PHOTOGRAPHY
I purchased both of Tony Stromberg's beautiful coffee table books of equine photography. Spirit Horses was his first from 2005, and The Forgotten Horses is his most recent, 2008. His artistry is present in every take. His use of color is particularly seductive and lends a mood to each photograph. It is a luxurious experience to curl up on the sofa with your beverage of choice and take the time to just let your imagination go free as you take in the visual beauty he offers on every page of breathtaking, equine majesty. It is a wonderful gift to give the horse lover in your life, or anyone who appreciates the grace & beauty of the horse. Stromberg enjoys capturing the horse at liberty in its natural state. He is especially fond of photographing the horses in groups running. His close ups are often head shots that focus on the emotion in the horse's eye or wildly flowing manes that speak of unencumbered freedom. You will not find stiff-looking dressage horses with tightly braided hair, or horses polished up for show. Stromberg is interested in horses living free and in so doing, instructing the human, not the other way around, which seems to be all too prevailing in today's horse world. In "The Forgotten Horses" the forward by Robert Redford & the Introduction by Tony Stromberg tell the sad story of the horses that have been discarded in our modern disposable society. Horses that are perfectly fine and have so much to offer, but are cast aside to neglect, sometimes abuse and slow starvation, and eventually slaughter. Since I own and operate a horse sanctuary for just such horses, I could most certainly relate. I am so very grateful to Tony Stromberg for using his considerable talent & skill, to bring to light the plight of these creatures. He also updates the reader on the wild horses in captivity with the BLM and the current situation in the US regarding horse slaughter. I recommend either of Stromberg's books for the pure pleasure of their heart-stopping, fabulous, equine photography, Books you will want to return to time & again if only to be transported temporarily to another world, a better place.

One Man's Trash . . .
What is not to like about fabulous photographs of beautiful and free horses? These are the outcasts of our society. Horses who were rescued from slaughter pens (yes, where they were destined to be killed for food in Europe, in spite of carcenogenic drugs in their bodies) and from our public lands. These are not the 'lame, sick and halt' animals as purported by the horse industry and our government. Many are mare and foals cast offs by these registered agencies as the economy took a down turn and these hapless creatures were sent to a fate worse than death itself. These were the lucky ones and testament that there are still humans in this world with compassion and appreciation of lives other than their own.

The Forgotten Horses by Tony Stromberg
Tony Strombergs "The Forgotten Horses" is the kind of book that reminds one of Marilyn Monroe's "The Last Sitting" by Bert Stern. This pictoral journey of horses is in a totally different light of them and sets it apart from other books. It is sensual, tender, many photos are grainy and warm colors of honey and brown. Each page makes a treat out of viewing to an equine fanatic. Great coffee table book to pick up over and over. Amazing photos - some are so close - for any horse lover, you can feel the mane, the tail, the soft curves, the muscles and smell the sweet aroma of horses. No other book has ever had the same type of effect as this one. An absolute treat for any equine lover.

BEAUTIFUL HORSES
The images are amazing and I will be buying a second book and framing some of the pictures. Tony took his talent of photo taking and took it to a top level. These beautiful horses are the ones that were unwanted and abuse, he shows them as ambassadors to their breed. This book is on my coffee table and I look at it all the time.

The Forgotton Horses
Stromberg is a wonderful photographer who has been around for some time.He has "the eye" with the camera and captures some wonderful poses and personality of these horses. We will be all the worse for letting the wild horses fade away into dust.Yet another Creature of this world caught in the crossfire of our greed and miserable stewardship of this Earth!

I like it but it seems like its missing something...
I guess maybe that's the point. Sortof like, the forgotten horses. Makes that hallowing impact that there is a missing piece to our connection with and responsibility to nature's spirit. Great for the coffee table and conversation.

Buy this beautiful book and support the cause
This is a beautiful book and the photos are so well done you feel as if you are looking at the horses souls. They are such magnificent animals and could not have been captured on film any more beautifully.

Great gift, stunning photos
I bought this as a present for my sister who is both horsey and into her photography. Stromberg's images are just stunning. They really seem to capture the wildness of these feral horses. Visit his website for further examples of just how beautiful this book looks - ideal gift for the equestrian in your life... or yourself!
