Flycatcher Smart Sketcher SSP213 Learn to Draw, Blue/White

The children love this gadget. It's been a lovely little tool to keep the kids happily occupied, and learning a skill. We temporarily misplaced the little case and memory card within an hour of opening the box - so I recommend parents take a good look at those pieces and maintain custody of them. We took this with us on a trip, and I think the power cord has been left behind - so y'all probably want to be careful about that component as well. Kids aged 9 and 4 were both ecstatic about their drawings - super proud of themselves, super excited to show their work around, and thrilled to bust this thing out in the morning as soon as they wake up and get to work while I get their breakfast ready. They would watch tutorials online and draw, but they are usually a little heartbroken when they're done because they don't like their work. This helps generate a much happier outcome. I am super pleased with this purchase and I would recommend to anybody out there with tiny crafters who enjoy drawing but may need a little more guidance than watching a tutorial.

I purchased a smArt Sketcher Projector and 2 add on SD cards for my granddaughter’s birthday. My granddaughter liked this present when it worked . Early on they started having sporadic problems with it. .The projector would work then stop working, so they would re-insert the SD card and often get a “card reader error”. This occurred with three different SD cards, and became more frequent over time. I noticed other people had similar problems and I decided to write Flycatcher, since I saw them respond to feedback. I’m glad I did! The Flycatcher Support team sent me a new projector and two new SD cards. It’s nice to know a company will stand behind their product and provide good customer service. I will not hesitate or purchase again from them.

So the way this projects stuff is like a small pixelated grid; think a cross stitch pattern. If you want super finely detailed images you can trace perfectly, this might not be right for you. Mostly, I use it for lettering. I’m terrible and slow at it and this helps loads. PROS: -Easy set up -Cheapest thing on the market -Excellent for lettering and simple patterns -Saves a lot of time v. transfers -Lightweight, sturdy CONS: -You can’t really adjust images as you go; you need image editing software and fiddling around with sizes for a bit. I set up a template to speed up the process. Photopea or GIMP = free software. Trying to lower or raise the device yields blurry images. Not ideal. -Very small details will get lost. For some images I was only ablr to lay down a few dots of icing as a rough outline, then I had to free hand the rest. But it allowed to keep the images neat and consistent, so it WAS helpful. It just didn’t do most of the work like you might expect.

My kids (5 and almost 3) love this!!! My 5 year old is so proud of her art creations and I love how she can practice her letters step by step. If she traces without this unless I’m there she forgets where to start on the letter etc. but since this can show you step by step it’s perfect. I can make dinner and she can practice! She also has loved making drawings! The sample sd card has a good mix of things on it and we bought another one too since they love it so much. We were able to get my Apple phone to work with it. You just need your phone somewhat close to the device and get into the app and tell it you have a sketcher. I’ve saved images from the web and then used the app to pull them up from my camera roll. It won’t be step by step but still great to trace. My three year old needs helpsince she can’t trace as well but it’s great practice. I will be buying again for a gift.

Ok, so I saw it at my nieces house and fell in love then ordered one for my 5 year old son, it is so easy to use and I downloaded the app, it works on Bluetooth and will project ANY picture from your phone … it comes with some drawings on a card/chip and you can use it as well but if you lose it then it’s all on the app! You can even do ABC’s for practice …. It’s an amazing gift to buy, i will totally recommend to everyone I know ! My drawing skills are so poor, to say the least, and I totally see myself stealing it and using it myself … lol! It is fun!

My kids love it. But like others people have posted, It did stop reading the chip after about year. My children only used it maybe a handful of times too. But it does still connect to my phone. The only problem with that is it doesnt show step by step instructions anymore.

When I first considered buying this for my six-year-old I was a bit tentative because of all the negative reviews I've seen on here. Luckily because of our Prime Membership I knew that I had enough time to return it if I needed to so I gave it a shot. So far, it's been great. Our Amazon Prime package came in pristine condition. We've only had it open for about 3 days and it seems to be working the way it's intended as well as reading the content card that came with it as well as a jungle animals card we bought in edition. It is also working well with the Bluetooth on my phone (Samsung Galaxy S8) to add our own pictures. There are a lot of comments about how the pictures weren't clear but I'm not sure if the people were going into it with accurate expectations. This is a $50 toy not a pro drawing implement. It's a little pixelated but we easily sketched pictures of ourselves and I personally thought it did a great job of converting color photographs into black and white pictures suitable for sketching. Overall I'm very happy with it and so is my daughter. She is loving it! My thought is to give it a try and if it comes damaged, send it back. I will be sure to update this review if anything changes. I bought this with hopes to use the projector for my cookies, unfortunately the image quality was not sharp enough and the focus adjustment was not up to par for this kind of thing. I ended up returning and investing in a projector for $100+ and am much happier with it. BUT I will say that for what it is intended for, it would work perfectly. When projecting images onto the desk and paper, I can see how it could definitely teach kids how to draw. The installation and USB for images is pretty straightforward and kids could really benefit from this. If you're looking to buy this as a gift for kids, I'd recommend it.

My daughter loves this. You can use the built in learn to draw pictures or find your own on the internet. They can be a bit fuzzy off the internet but still great for kids. You put the app on your phone and just leave it run and the kids can control the rest on the machine so you can still do anything you want on your phone at the same time as long as you stay on Bluetooth range. Cons Does not come with many preloaded pictures and it’s expensive to buy other packs or subscribe. Does not project a very big picture and it you try to put it higher to make the picture bigger the legs get in the way. Overall my 6 year old daughter loves it but I would say it’s definitely made for kids to learn basic drawing skills, not in-depth.
