NOT THAT LOUD!!
This thing is great! I don’t know what people are complaining about in most reviews...this thing IS NOT THAT LOUD!!!If you are getting a generator of this type you have to expect some noise, and I am more than happy with the noise level it creates, and is much better than what I was expecting. Great generator for the price, you won’t be disappointed!!

Best bang for the buck

Heavy and loud and it may be more than you’ll need but it can be a lifesaver too.
Summary: I would check to see how much generator you are likely to need, evaluate how you will store/secure/transport this heavy item, consider safety for you and your electrical devices, and examine how long you may need a generator.Portable generators can be useful for large events (such as parties) and for unexpected emergencies (which are getting more publicity lately). I’ve worked in India for a while, and you could easily tell when the power went out by listening to the sudden sound of generators kicking in (and by people complaining about power spikes burning out their computers — those people should have used batteries and only let commercial power charge those batteries). This generator CAN be a useful adjunct for your home emergency bag of tricks, but here are some things you may find useful before you buy one:1. Where will you store and use it? The 3645 is a heavy beast, it’s loud, it needs good ventilation, and it may be overkill if you can get by with a smaller one. The portability is quite good with this one unless you need to move it up and down narrow stairs or steep grades, so consider how you will transport it. If you plan to run it more than a few days you will also need a safe place to store gasoline (you can scavenge from your car’s gas tank ... perhaps).2. How much do you need it? A generator will only run as long as you have gasoline, and if you have an extended emergency, you may only get a couple of days of use. You must als determine what appliances your generator will need to run (Lowes and Sumppumpsdirect have some pretty good charts on power draw, and you may be surprised how much, or how little, you need from a generator). The 3645 will power important items like sump pumps and refrigerators quite easily but you can overload it by adding something like a coffee maker to your load. YOu may need to help store food for your neighbors in an emergency too, so you may want to get a bigger one than you’d need for yourselves. Again, if you are careful, you may be able to get by with a smaller generator. If you will demand quiet, you will want something different (I’d not want this to power a wedding, for instance).3. How can you use it safely? Extension cords can be easily overloaded and unacceptably dangerous (especially if it’s wet), and if you hook it up to your house, you will certainly need an adequate current relay (an electrician may be needed here for code). We have not shut down our power supply to see how well this generator works, that’s for sure. You also risk damaging your appliances — surge protectors sometimes work well, but you can get severe spikes from generators (we once used a generator overseas and even though it had surge protection, it fried one of our appliances so badly the repairperson said he had never seen so much damage from a surge. You can use it to recharge batteries in some cases, though).4. How dependable will your generator be? Here, you are dealing with kind of an unknown quantity. Simpson has been well regarded for their power washers, but reliability is a major concern for emergency power or for powering events, and Simpson does not seem to have much profile in the generator business.

Money lost
I received the product and it had been dropped and broken. Amazon paid me for the product eventually but shipping the product back was very expensive and I received a sizable monetary loss. I will purchase small items on Amazon but buying any sizable or heavy product that may have issues will not be purchased through Amazon. I felt like I was playing a shell game.

Really Came In Handy In Rash Of Power Outages- EASY TO START
When I got this, I wanted to test it, but to really evaluate how it performs I wanted to be sure that I had the pressure of a power outage to really tell. Well, it took some time, but I was not disappointed. I made sure to run it quite a few times to make sure and get a solid review to share with you. Well, it's time. The type of storm we are having today, I might just have to use it..WHAT IS THIS LIKE?This is a nice portable generator. It is easy to move around and put where we need it to be. The oil check is easy (and also to fill) and a has a recoil start along with a button switch. The outlets are as listed and each comes with a nice tight fitting cover to it. The handle folds down for easy storage. It comes with oil, spark plug wrench and oil funnel. You put on the wheels.INSTRUCTION BOOKThe instruction book is a bit confusing as it lists an electronic start as if this generator has one along with the manual start, but after really studying the unit, I saw that it was just allowing for various models- it does not state that, however. Otherwise the instructions are well laid out and if you follow them you should be able to use the generator well.HOW DOES THIS OPERATE?We have another generator which has a manual start and it is very difficult to pull and get going. This one, however, was easy and worked beautifully every time. The idea is once you start it, you give it a moment, plug in first item, let the generator get a stable flow again, then you plug in the second item, etc. It is important not to slam generators with a sudden draw as it can cause problems.NOISE?This was a much quieter generator than our other one.FUMESThis generator has less fumes than the others we have used.CONSISTENT CURRENTThis performed well without fluctuations for three hours or so each time.WHAT DID WE USE IT FORBecause we have another generator for our well, applicances, etc, I wanted to have an additional one to keep our aquariums running through extended power outages. We had our power cable break not too long ago and keeping water flowing, keeping our fish alive plus run appliances in below zero weather was very difficult. There are four plugs we can use and we use power strips/boxes to centralize the different sections of the room where the fish are. This helps a lot when using the generator. This performed beautifully. No problems at all.VITAMIXI tested this running a vitamix very quickly on it as the only draw and it worked without a problem. I would not use it for extended periods but in a pinch it works.WHO MIGHT LIKE THIS?This would be great for doing rural festivals, on work sites, traveling if you have to run power for an extended time and you have a truck you travel with, or people with smaller needs for running basics during power outages.THE BOTTOM LINEFor a great smaller generator that starts easily, stores well, is stable, easy to use, and has a consistent flow of power, this is a wonderful addition to my household. Honestly, I have been REALLY thankful for this as we have had a sudden rash of power outages. I could not run our other generator and this one is much easier.MY RATINGFIVE STARS. I almost cried when I saw how easy this was to use. Being in an area with power outages is not easy when you can not run the generator when home alone. This one has changed all of that. I love it. With the amount of storms we are getting lately, this could come in handy.

Great generator
We own the distant cousin (discontinued?) SPG3600, but based on the photos, it's the same model. We've had it for about five years and it has NEVER failed us. Still starts on first pull. Can run about 8 hours or more on one tank. We use it to power our refrigerator, sump pump and phones/charging. Could even do a bit more if you needed it. Just had five days of power outage in NE Ohio, and it ran with no problem for the entire time. Would buy again or move up a model for even more power.
