The Mathematics of the Breath and the Way: On Writers and Writing
H**!
A very good book with serious intent
A very good book with serious intent. Finally a book that Bukowski probably would have agreed to its publication. Not sure if he would have said yes to books entitled like: ON CATS! most of those books published by ECCO are so UnBukowski - Just for a quick buck! But this book edited by a serious editor like David Calonne is excellent. One tiny gripe: why such a small format? Why publish this man's work on a throw away mass market paperback?

“I hate to be ridiculous—but could you loan me five bucks?”
Just arrived so I’m only 58 pages in and already glad I bought this.“The writing arrives when it wants to. There is nothing you can do about it. You can’t squeeze more writing out of the living than is there. Any attempt to do so creates a panic in the soul...”

You want to REALLY write? Read this.
Oh, Bukowski, you dog, some young guy pulled together a bunch of your lesser seen writings on writing and thrown in with a few bits of criticism, has made a book worth reading. If you write, or if you only read like the discerning jerk we all know you are, because here you are reading a review of a Bukowski book, this will teach you more, if you let it, than most of the collective BS about writing currently available.

GENIUS
Already half way to finishing this book. Bukowski never fails to impress me with his words. He gives me the light to see things I already felt within, but failed to describe. I have made it my quest to read everything he’s ever written!

GENUINE BUKOWSKI: NO EDITING REQUIRED BY ACADEMICS AND STINGY CHEAP-SKATE ISLANDERS
A great compendium of stories that are otherwise unavailable, unless you track down the publications in which they were originally published. Editor had an easy job. Scan the original. Edit to desired dimensions. Send to the printer. Get a publishing credit and an honorarium. Would have been better edited by John Martin, legendary publisher of Bukowski during his lifetime, a man of vision and immense integrity. These Bukowski stories brilliantly and honestly illustrate 20th-century America. No euphemisms, no clichés, no false ideology, no hidden agenda. Raw truth. Not for the squeamish or suburban.
