Principles of War: A Handbook on Strategic Evangelism

Great book that outlines how faith can be put into action
I have appreciated Jim Wilson's story for as long as I've heard it, so I knew I'd like this book. Jim Wilson is an amazing story of God plucking someone out of one course of life and putting them firmly on another. In this book, Wilson explains how God used him and his experience in the military to craft a style of putting faith into action that is both mindful of results as well as the principles behind your actions. So often we Christians tend to think that EITHER we must take a 'principles first, results be hanged' approach OR a 'the ends justifies the means' approach to our actions. This book shows you one particular style of walking that line out between both - by being intentional about the reasons for your ministry, as well as intentional about the results. I recommend this to anyone who is considering pastoral ministry or missionary work, but also to any Christian that is looking to put shoes on their faith but not sure how. It's short, and encouraging, and it is the no-frills raw home-grown faith of a man who didn't receive much formal training in the faith, yet nevertheless has created a solid and amazing legacy in his little corner of the world.

Full of practical, Biblical wisdom
Obedience is a willing or an unwilling carrying out of an order or a command. Most of our own experience from childhood up has been of the unwilling kind of obedience. This is one of the reasons “volunteer” has a better reputation than “obey.” In our experience volunteering always means being willing. Obedience always means to be unwilling. If, however, we had known something of willing obedience, then volunteering would be out completely. God does not ask for volunteers, nor does He challenge His own children. When Jesus called His disciples, He did the choosing. He said, “Follow me.” It was a simple imperative. There were also a great many volunteers who followed Jesus. The volunteers did not last."God does not challenge us to volunteer for Jesus' team. He commands us to repent and obey. This book is worth that final chapter alone, but there's so much about practical evangelism and study that makes this short book packed with Biblical wisdom.

Jim, or any other of the Wilson clan, need no introduction or explanation. All of their books are worth buying and reading and giving away as gifts to friends and enemies alike, and this on strategic evangelism is not an exception. You won't regret buying it. But if you do, just wrap it and give it to a friend for any occasion; they'll thank you for it.

READ IT AND REAP ......
Like eating potato chips. Once you start - you won't be able to stop. Maximum truth in minimum space. I try to read this book at least once a year because the principles are so powerful and effective.

I found this little book to be very helpful to gain insight as to how to assess a situation and identify what is needed to create a strategy. Also how to watch for weaknesses and strengths. Fascinating look into basic military principles and evangelism. I have used these principles many time in prayer as well.
