A nice service to breastfeeding moms!
I eat a nutritious and balanced diet but I have malabsorption and was worried about the quality of my milk. I was happy to find that milk testing is possible and very easy to do. Everything was simple and straightforward as far as doing the test. Dr. Canale assured me that the overall quality of my milk was good but I was actually sad to find that my malabsorption is affecting my milk to some degree. But that is something I needed to know for my baby's sake. I have been taking the additional supplements that were reccomended as well as a few others that my doctor reccomended when I brought the results in to him. After doing the retest the vitamin A in my milk is now at a healthy level so that was good to see. The calcium is still optimal and that was reassuring. But some of the other vitamins had gotten lower in spite of supplementing. So I am following up with my doctor for additional help in making sure my baby and I get the nutrients we need. As we get him more and more nutrients he is tending to sleep better most nights and he continues to thrive. Although overall my baby was thriving and my health is fairly good this did teach me some things about my health and my baby and I are doing better as a result. Additionally my baby has benign sleep jerks that had become worse. An EEG confirmed that they are not seizure related. We have found that even though they are still present, they are improving significantly as we increase his nutrition. I am very happy to have gotten my milk tested even though my test results were less than perfect, because in my case it opened my eyes to potential nutritional deficiencies and hopefully before they caused a major issue for my baby. I'm also glad that I got the retest because it let me know that some things had improved whereas other areas still needed some tweaking. I would highly reccomend getting the nutritional content of your milk tested if you can and lactation lab makes it simple. I would love to see them test for more vitamins. This is a very nice service to breastfeeding mom's!

Very useful
This was SO helpful! I’m a physician by background. My daughter has a new allergy so I was doing a total elimination diet and wanted to make sure to optimize and make sure my breast milk was ok with the dietary changes. This will help me modify things in my diet so I know she is getting the best. Thank you so much!

Very useful for NICU baby
My daughter was born at 27 weeks and spent 4 months in the NICU before coming home. The NICU is all about numbers - we’re always counting volumes, calories/kg, grams gained overnight, intake/outake. They approximate breast milk at 20 kcal in that world, at least in our NICU, and fortify breast milk to 24, 26, 28 kcal to promote growth in the small premature babies, like my daughter. Being able to show our dietician and rest of the team the breakdown provided by Lactation Lab was so valuable in helping them come up with a plan. We learned that my milk was high in calories (28 kcal), but on the normal/low side of the spectrum for protein, with most calories coming from fats and carbs. I purchased 3 kits so far and recommend it to all moms, especially my NICU mom friends. Not to mention customer support was excellent. One of my vials was disposed of by mistake at our NICU, and I was sent a replacement vial within less than a day, along with a nice, encouraging message. The reports are clear and easy to understand with many recommendations. I also loved how the email was personalized and highlighted the main findings.

No more mom guilt!
My babies were born full term weighting ~8lbs+, but their growth slowed after delivery. They were thriving, but followed a smaller growth curve. I was adamant about breastfeeding, but would feel like a failure after well visits because they were still so small. After my second, I decided to try this lab kit, and I was astonished by the results. The contents of my milk, especially the calories were much better than I thought (28 kcals/oz breast milk vs 20 kcals/oz of formula)! Astonishing! The results were quick and the report was informative. I was also able to get reimbursed through my FSA. I’m glad this service is offered, and I’m finally at peace knowing I am giving my baby everything she needs!

Peace of Mind
My son has been diagnosed as Failure to Thrive. My husband and I spent a week in the hospital with him because he was not gaining an appropriate amount of weight. I was concerned that the milk I was providing my son was low in calories or not fatty enough for him and that was why he was not gaining weight. Turns out the calories in my milk are above average and the fat levels are within the normal range. Perhaps that is why he is eating fewer ounces per day than what is "normal." Getting my milk tested gives me peace of mind knowing that I am providing my son the nutrition he needs. It will also factor in to my decision on how long to breastfeed. Thank you for providing this service. My husband asked so many doctors if it was possible to analyze my breast milk and they looked at him like he was crazy! The only reason I gave a 4-star rating is it took almost a week to get my results. From the other reviews many got their results within a few days.
