It arrived dull, but when sharpened it earns high marks for it's natural motion and ease of use
When I received the knife, it was dull. Most of the knives that I purchase in this range arrive and are able to slice through paper with a simple "push cut," meaning that the blade is sharp enough to cut through the paper without sliding it through. This knife couldn't do that and gave me resistance when I cut through denser items like onions. It was also a little jumpy. It's possible that this was simply an exception to the rule, but I was underwhelmed with this purchase out of the box. I really wanted an American made knife for my collection, and this one was disappointing me right from the start. I had to sharpen it on a whetstone to get it sharper, and, even then, I have trouble getting smooth cuts on onions. I feel the resistance when cutting into the deep end of a large onion. That being said, the knife is comfortable to hold and has a really smooth rocking motion. I've had knives where the bolster leaves a gap between the bottom of the blade and the cutting board; this leaves food near the rear of the blade uncut. This knife had no such defects or issues. It's smooth and capable. When it's sharpened the knife's build allows for a really natural, easy moving rocking motion when I chop. It's also a fairly good weight. It's not as bulky or as heavy my Messermeister, however, it's weight is what I consider sturdy and good for any long time chore in the kitchen.I have my bias, because I find this to be a really good American made knife with a lot of positive remarks on the internet. As an $85 purchase, I'm content with the state my lamsonsharp knife is currently at, but I'm not happy about receiving what I thought was a dull knife (for the cost) on arrival. I appreciate a good looking knife and this definitely fits the category, even if it doesn't see the most use of the knives in my collection.

If you love cooking, this is the knife for you!
Yes, this knife is expensive, but it's sooo worth it. I have bought countless cheap made in China knives over the years and the tang is usually less than an inch and with daily use the blade invariably parts company from the handle. Then I tried a made in China full tang knife and the handle has started to crack and expose the tang which has started to rust, Aarg! I realised that in the long run it actually works out more expensive to buy cheap knives, not to mention the frustration and disappointment of spending money on poor quality items that don't last. No more cheap knives for me!This knife is beautifully designed and engineered, functionally, aesthetically and ergonomically. It is the perfect size and shape for everything from smashing garlic cloves to mincing, chopping and slicing pretty much anything. Also, it is designed in such a way that there is no annoying crevice where the blade meets the handle for crud to collect in; a minor detail, but an added bonus! I have banished all my other knives to the garage because this is the only knife I will ever need. Except perhaps for the Lamsonsharp Grandma's new/used parer with walnut handle which I bought at the same time. Both knives are a perfect example of the excellent design and manufacturing skills that still exist in this country. I always wash and dry my knives by hand, so they have not experienced the dishwasher and never will, as they are in constant use and are far too precious. They look like they will last a very long time.

Beautiful and feels good, too!
I recently purchased a custom made knife block, The color is what you imagine aged Brazilian Cherry to be; very warm and rich, not brown, not neutral brown. I did an experiment and ordered a number of different types of knives from different manufacturers. I'm happy say this is standout, not only from a visual perspective, but from a functional one as well. This is forged, not stamped. I have found that any stamped knife I buy no matter the cutting capability-I simply do not like because of the way it feels in my hand. The ones where the tang extends the full length of the handle are my favorite. I'm no expert, but I am very attuned to quality, and this is a keeper. I will be giving my Victorinox and Forschner knives to my best friend (I ordered the 6 inch utility and the bread knife) and buying another couple of LamsonSharps.

I'm bleeding love..
I attempted to use this knife for something that wasn't its' intended purpose. While doing so I found myself disappointed in how sharp it was... until I shaved a big chunk of my thumb off. Needless to say the knife is very sharp and I plan on using it for it's intended purpose from now on. I.E. cutting chicken, steak, and other meats. On a non-important note, the knife looks beautiful. I'm not sure what else to say about it because this was my first high-end cutlery purchase so I can fairly compare it to the Chicago Cutlery knives that I'm used to.

What's Not To Like? A True Gem!
I have been an Amazon customer for 10+ years and I have never written a review on any of the products I have ever purchased which should lend some definite credence to the following;Top quality, razor sharp and made in America. What's not to like? Forget Wusthof, for Henckles, forget those fancy Japanese brands. This is the knife you want! The fit and finish are superb and a joy to hold in the hand. Perfect knife for everyday use and for every chore around the kitchen. LamsonSharp is the way to go!

Great quality - but.
I bought this knife to add to my set of Lamson knives. Great quality as usual but has limited practical use.
