My Friends: A Novel

Incredible. Just incredible. I cried and laughed all at the same time and finished the book in a day. Couldn’t put it down.

While the story is interesting, the writing is pretty bad.. not as expected. Book delivered in excellent condition

Book received in good condition. My Friends is heartfelt and beautifully written. I loved how the author captured friendship, grief and the quiet ways people shaped each other’s lives. It made me smile, it made me tear up, and it lingered with me long after I finished the last page. Highly recommended!

*My Friends* was my favorite book of 2025. I loved it so much that I gifted it to other people because I needed everyone around me to experience this story too. And if you want to know how much I LOVED this book, just ask. I became completely obsessed with these characters and the friendship at the heart of the book. Twenty-five years ago, four teenagers found safety, love, and a family in one another while dealing with lives that were far more difficult than they should have been. In the present, Louisa’s connection to a famous painting leads her on a journey to uncover the story behind the artwork, and the friends who inspired it. I loved how central art was to the story: how it preserved a moment, connected people across time, gave pain somewhere to go, and allowed someone who felt invisible to be seen. But even more than that, I loved the friendship. Backman captures the kind of bond where people know the worst parts of one another and choose to stay anyway. These characters made me laugh, broke my heart, and stayed with me long after I finished reading. I already love Fredrik Backman, but this book somehow made me love him even more. I recently saw an interview where he explained that he wants his writing to feel as though you’ve sat down next to someone at a bar and they’ve said, “Let me tell you a story.” That is exactly what reading his books feels like... and yes, please, Fredrik Backman: sit next to me and tell me all the stories, all the time. I will always be ready to listen.

Friendship, adventure, a good read, what more do you need?

Excellent Book! Worth the read.

I have read all of his books, which was the reason that I ordered this in January but waited until my summer break to read it, in time and peace. Even though he is - by far - may favorite author, I am not really able to describe how this story has made me feel. I laughed and I actually cried, I had goosebumps and just stretched out the last chapters for three days as I couldn't deal with the thought that the story of these extraordinary people will be over. Unfortunately, it is. Nevertheless, it will stay with me. Trust me, you are never, ever going to regret reading that book. Unless you are not "one of us".
