Great garden tool!
This is a great garden tool. It really digs into dirt and difficult roots when removing plant or preparing ground for a plant. It is not as heavy as it appears but it is sturdy.

My favorite tool in the shed
This is my favorite, most useful tool for lawn and garden work. I like it so much that I've given them as gifts to my sons and brothers-in-law and I highly recommend it to others. The spade end of this trowel is heavy duty steel. The v-notch allows me to pry out rocks and cut through roots--same with the sawtooth edge. The handle is reinforced, and I have used it to pound-in stakes. Even the cutting hook comes in handy for slicing twine around bales. I have a zoysia lawn and, despite installing edging, the zoysia grass invades planting beds. The Root Slayer allows me to cut down through the spreading zoysia and then pry up the tentacles of grass--much better than any other weeder or garden trowel. Its flat trowel allows me to skim under weeds in the bed and scoop them out roots and all.

Best piece of garden equipment I've ever owned
It's hard to put 3 years of work into one review. Turning an entire yard from a blank slate into a sanctuary.I didn't post a photo of the trowel. It looks mostly the same. The photos I posted are just *some* of the gardens I started using it, along with a couple long handled shovels. This is the only trowel that I use. Nothing else compares, not even a little. I spend most of my life outside working in the gardens in the spring, summer, and fall. The trowel is extremely durable, and it cuts beautifully, even through the toughest roots and dirt. I can also till dirt to put new plants in. I adore this tool for pulling weeds. I can get right in there and slice through the tap root using the sharp end blade.I have gotten hundreds of hours of hard work out of it already. I have filled my home with beautiful flower gardens, and vegetable gardens. I've used it from digging fence post holes to a 12 x 12 x 2 hole for pavers, fighting silver maple tree roots the whole way.If you garden at all, this is a MUST HAVE.

Handy saw edges on the side of the trowel
This trowel does a great job when working with soil that is loaded with roots. Previously I had to hack away or maybe use my rip-saw to cut through thick roots. This trowel has a partial saw edge on each side of the trowel. This edge blasts through skinny roots as though they are not there. Thicker roots can get sawn through with the edge - I simply shove the trowel in, making sure that the saw edge gets forced across the root. The saw edge works in one direction and has little trouble with roots up to one inch thick as long as you maintain contact between the saw edge and the root and are reasonably forceful. I think this could cut thicker roots, but at some point it makes sense to use something like a rip saw on really thick roots.

Love this brand!
I tend to abuse my hand tools and have broken several, including some Fiskars. This thing has taken all of my abuse without any issues. I have used it like a shovel and stepped on it for leverage, whacked rocks and other tools, used it with gravel, and it just keeps going. Most of my tools last one season and they're done and this one is ready for season two. I will try to update if it does break down! I have the root slayer and the edger too and they are also indestructible.
