Good knowledge but not for exam prep
This book is filled with useful knowledge for those interested in getting into amateur (Ham) radio. The spiral binding makes it really easy to open up and read then refer to other sections while learning. Images are useful. My only complaint about the writing is the use of everyone's names and callsigns in the book. I get it. Hams love callsigns, but it gets very hard to follow when 3-6 names and callsigns are used in a brief time. It just starts to sound like nonsense to someone who's just learning the hobby from scratch.I say I don't recommend this for exam prep because, while it has the test bank questions for the Technician class license in the back, it contains WAY too much extraneous information. When you're studying for the exam, use HamStudy or a similar webpage/app. When you're trying the memorize a 430-question test bank, the last thing you need is be learning stuff NOT on the exam, like how amateur radio started or how to build your own system. When it's time for the exam, just learn the exam. You have the rest of your life to learn the rest of the hobby. If you must have a book, download the free pdf written by KB6NU. It has the test bank questions with short explanations of the "why" of things. That said, I used nothing but the HamStudy app (about $4 at the time of this writing), and I was able to pass both the Technician and General exams with less than 2-weeks of studying. Granted, that's two weeks of just rote memorization, but that's all I needed to get into the hobby. This book, while very good, isn't a great study tool for the exam.

Not up to date
The book refers you to the website too much. The book should be a complete updated book. There should be less references to the website. this makes it hard reading when you have to reference something on the web and you are reading while traveling.

Not what you think
I was disappointed over all. It's not well written and found it confusing. It does have some good information in it and being spiral bound makes it easy to lie flat. Maybe it's just me but I have an engineering degree in electronics and when I read the section on Ohm's Law I had to read it 3 times. It's just the way they wrote it. It wasn't wrong just not explained very well.

Its a good book, but,....
Its a good book, but both my husband and I find the HAM STUDY app more helpful. We refer to the book only occasionally. The app was about 1/10th the price of the book. There are also several helpful free tutorials on YouTube. We found one guy (Red Wagon something or other) that we like. So we watch his videos twice, then start taking the test on Ham Study. We find that to be the easiest.ALSO,....this book scared us into NOT wanting to take the test. We thought it was going to be easy until we got to chapter 2. Chapter 2 had a lot of math and stuff that was way over our heads. The study app explains things in a way we can understand. But we are happy to have this book for a physical reference should the internet go down.

Great way to learn amateur radio, for a great price.
I almost bought this book on the ARRL website. It was cheaper here even before shipping was added in on the ARRL website, and shipping with Amazon Prime was free. It arrived in 1 day. I was able to start reading it the day after I order it! The spiral binding is great. It makes it easy to study and make notes without having to hold the book open. The information contained within and the layout are great as well. I am learning a lot and I definitely recommend this book for anyone who wants to earn a Technician license.

Great content, but Kindle version is a glorified PDF
My review is based on the Kindle edition. Overall, the study guide content is excellent for teaching you what you need to know for the technician exam. If you take the time to read through the book, learn the subjects, and take the practice exams, passing the exam should be no problem at all. And, you'll have a much better understanding the subjects than those people who simply memorize the questions and answers to the exam and get their licenses without knowing much of anything. With that said, the Kindle edition is disappointing because it seems to have been created as an afterthought. There is no Kindle table of contents to help you jump between chapters, and that's incredibly frustrating when you're trying to study specific topics. The lack of page numbers is also frustrating. Most Kindle books have them these days, so it's unclear why a study guide would not have them, given how important it is to be able to jump to specific parts of the book when preparing for the exam.

Great guide full of history and physics of radio made easy to understand
This was a great guide. I have a degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering but my focus was on digital and we didn't learn much about radio (which is built into all of our devices nowadays). After finding $30 Baofeng ham radios on Amazon I decided to check into the certification. I found at that the folks in Laurel, MD help people run free Amateur Radio Licensing tests all around the nation - so the test would be free and from a pool of questions that don't change.I bought this book at the beginning of August, spent an hour a day reading through it and taking practice tests online, and took my test at the beginning of September... and learned a ton about the history and physics of radio in the process. I'd recommend it to all of my friends.

Everything you need to take the Technician test is here, but needs a proofreader
Everything you need to learn before taking the Technician test is here, but you also need to take the ARRL practice questions and watch the summaries on YouTube. The only two criticisms I have are that the book needs to be proofread as there were numerous typos that need to be cleaned up. I also suspect it could be written in a way that would be easier to learn, maybe with shorter chapters. I'm not a teacher, so I can't advise on that. That said, the explanations were pretty good and fairly clear. Watch the youtube videos that summarize the concepts first, then read each section of the book.
