Good value
Curved handle is awkward for usage when unattached. My other miele has a shorter grab with less curvature. Much easier on the wrists.

Do not buy miele
After 2 months they want me to buy a new motor for 200 dollars! I cant believe the poor customer service I am getting with a company that apparently sells top of the line products. Customer service is cold and insensitive when they tell you that your product isn't covered under warranty when it is two months old, because you must have accidentally sucked up water somewhere in your house while cleaning.cleaarly not with the high price tag... Poor design and poor quality. Engine blew over a simple accident, I hadn't even realized I picked up any water, must have been on my carpet. Do not buy unless you want to deal with poor customer service and poor quality product.

Nice vacuum
I like this vacuum. The canister is compact but seems to be built like a brick. It's easy to pull around but I find it's light enough to hold it by the handle to keep it out of the way (I weigh 160 lbs). The wand is sturdy and easily adjusts for length, which has come in handy. It's a bit floppy when fully extended. The hose is super light and seems pretty cheap and flimsy. It was my biggest concern with this vacuum when I bought it. It seemed like it will split open within a few years of use. Using a rubberized material would have made it more expensive though. It's length is adequate as long as you keep the canister close to you when vacuuming. I'm just hoping that when the hose splits, I'll be able to find a replacement. After 5 years of use though, I haven't had any problems with it. I think the high number of convolutions help to limit the degree of flex at each node, which helps to prolong life. The amount of suction is infinitely variable with a rotary knob. There's also a thumb-operated sliding door to bleed off additional air on the wand. At full speed the suction is really good, but it's a lot louder than at lower speeds. I use it full blast all the time. The carpet brush works pretty well. You can feel it scouring the carpet and the head is really light and easy to move around. Suction drives the rotating carpet brush, so there's no wire to come loose inside the wand like on some older Miele vacuums. The C1 comes with 3 small attachments which (strangely) plug onto an external holder which surrounds the hose where it plugs into the canister, instead of storing inside the canister. This external storage solution helps to reduce the size of the housing, but is a bit bizarre and unsightly. I just leave it off. The 3 hand tools seem to be about 2/3 life size, just like the canister.Cord retraction is really nice. You don't have to keep yanking on the cord to get it to pull itself back inside. You just push a button on the canister with your foot. It's best to hold the plug when doing this so that it doesn't slap against the canister. It's easy to accidentally hit the cord retract button instead of the power button because the symbols look similar from a distance, both involving circles. I measured the cord length at 17.5 feet. People complaining about cord length just need to realize that you can't expect to vacuum several rooms using a single outlet. Unfortunately, the retraction spring starts getting weak after a few years and you have to help the cord back in.The canister has 2 air filters inside which helps to clean exhausted air so that you're not breathing a bunch of dust and other junk. It's pretty sophisticated for a vacuum. Fortunately, these filters are included with some replacement bag sets. If not, you can sacrifice a bag and cut your own.Authentic Miele bags are pretty pricey. When you see them you'll see why. They're not some paper junk. They're more like blankets. Even generic ones are expensive. Because the C1 is about 2/3 the size of a full size vac, the bags are on the small side, even though the tools are held externally. I've found that non-original bags work just fine. The bags have a plastic flapper valve on the inlet hole which is supposed to keep debris from coming out when the bag is removed, but if the bag is full the flap can't close. Doh! Sometimes I cheat and slit a bag to empty out it's contents and then use duct tape to close it back up. You can re-use bags several times like this and save quite a bit of money, but it's a mess. I wish the bags just came with a zipper, lol.I'm really like this vacuum, even after 5 years. It seems like some thought went into developing it to be light and easy to use while protecting your health. The canister only has 3 wheels on it, which makes it prone to topple over while pulling it around by the hose when vacuuming, which is annoying. A PAIR of wheels should be used at the end of the canister where the hose plugs in, not just one. Also, the hose comes straight out of the canister instead of having an elbow. This increases the leverage placed on the canister and causes it to tip over more easily when you pull on the hose. The elbow was eliminated to decrease air restriction in the hose for superior suction, but it makes life a bit of a pain. The suction IS amazing though. The carpet brush doesn't have a headlight on it like a more expensive vac and the smallish accessories mean you have to make a few more passes to get the job done, and the smallish bag means you need to change bags more often. It's light and powerful and works really well though. I just wish the canister wasn't so prone to tipping over and the bags were cheaper.

Lousy parts, good motor
I liked its motor and design. But the parts are not durable at all which is not what I expected from a product made in Germany. The hose is terrible - it broke after 3 years of normal household use. We bought a replacement (it costs a lot to buy replacement parts). the replacement was of even worse quality. Every time I vacuum, it twists and blocks the airflow. This happens a lot since the hose is what moves around with the vacuum wand. I called Miele and told the the replacement part was not even half of the quality that the first one was (and by the way, when I bought the vacuum the sales person made sure to show me how flexible this part of the vacuum is...). Miele representatives said they know about the issue but there's nothing to be done. They don't expect the issue to be fixed.Bottom line is: the company does not stand by its products and it is not worth any of its products. I've owned mine for 5 years and for the extra money I've spent on repairs and maintenance, it is not worth it.
