I really didn't know I could still get this. My old mining lamps from my dad still work. He used them back in the 30's when they mined with pick and shovel. Imagine working 16 hours a day for only a dollar and thinking it was really big money. Seeing the Orville show of the shooting gallery reminded me of some of the stories he told me of life back then.

Have not used yet but came in good shape and in good time.

It seems hard to fine small quantities of calcium carbide that works well in old miners lamps. This product works very well and seems just as good of quality as the fuel my grandfather used to have. The can arrives well packaged and sealed from the environment. I filled my lamp about 2/3 full of carbide and water and instantly stuck a bright flame that lasted for nearly 4 hours. The residue left behind is quickly cleaned up with water and a little elbow grease. I would highly recommend keeping some on hand for hurricanes or other natural disasters.

I like the air-tight can it comes in as well as finding this product. I have searched for many years, and for 20+ years, been unable to find this product even though I knew it existed. I know it can be used for those little toy cannons - my father had one and when he gave that toy cannon to me I wanted to try it out. Sadly, I could never locate the calcium carbide. My other grandfather had a miner's lantern, but again, I could never test it out. I have gophers in the yard, and using the old traps are not an option. So, I've been using this stuff as a deterrent. So far, so good.

My husband has an old mining light and this product made it come light!! Awesome!
