The Dynamite Art of Alex Ross

Alex Ross with a new cast of characters
The media could not be loaded. Alex Ross' third art book has as much impact as Mythology and Rough Justice. However, it's a little different from those two books. It features art for the lesser known superheroes (to me) from Dynamite. Most of the characters are new to me, like those from Project Superpowers, Kirby: Genesis. There's also The Torch, Bionic Man, Green Hornet, Flash Gordon Zeitgeist, The Shadow and even Voltron (yes, that Voltron). There are sketches, designs, layouts, pencils, panels and plenty of covers.Having gotten used to seeing DC superheroes like Superman and Batman from Alex Ross, I wasn't expecting a whole new cast of characters in the book. The art for Kirby: Genesis is quite radical with the wild costumes and unfamiliar colour palette. The bulk of the book features completely new art so there's no duplication with the earlier art books. This one's a 328-page hardcover. Many illustrations come with short commentary from Alex Ross. The art is fantastic, very typical of Alex Ross' style of realism and lighting. This is another impressive art book for those who can't get enough of Alex Ross.(There are more pictures of the book on my blog. ...Alex is ASTONISHING!!!!
I believe this is historically one of the BEST books for all aspiring comic book artist or artist in general. Each and EVERy picture within this book wields amazing reference to the human anatomy and serves as great source of reference to use for yourself if you also create art. From the paintings, to the storyboard sketches and character concept sketches everything is done with expert detail, but hey it is Alex "FREAKIN" Ross!!! What more would you expect. Anywho, I could go on, and on about how phenominal the art is in this book so I'll also say that it opens ones eyes to other outlets in the comic world aside for the powerhouse companies of Marvel and DC Comics. Alot of the heroes/heroines portrayed in this book I've NEVER heard of, yet (even though they tend to come off as very OLDSCHOOL), all of them look amazing and are interesting. One of my new favorites so far is Black Terror! With that being said if you are an artist go and buy this TODAY!!! If your are someone who appreciates very well done arts this is a definite buy. My only complaint is that this book is a hardback other than that...GO BUY TODAY!!!

WOW.......
If you own Mythology, this book is very similiar. It's oversized pages filled with amazing artwork is not littered by alot of narrative explanations of his work, it simply speaks for itself. It's brilliant in every way. The book boasts hundreds of covers and dozens of character studies that really does come from a different place than we've been used to.Most people are accustomed to all of his majestic, almost god-like depections of the DC universe. This book seems to come from a deep recess that goes into much darker characters. By doing that, you can really see the array of color use in his work. Ross' range of ability is absolutely stunning in this massive hard cover. If you're a fan of Alex's work, this is a MUST have.

This whole book is "DYNAMITE"!!!!!
I am a collector of art books, and Alex Ross quickly became one of my favorite artists more than anything because of his attention to detail! This book is just as good if not better than his DC art collection book "Anthology"! Everytime I start to look at this book, I find it hard to put down, my arm gets a workout from holding it up for long periods of time! You can't help but be taken away from all these spectacular images!I waited quite a while for this book, I must say it was worth every second to wait, you will not be disapointed with its contence!A MUST BUY in my collection!!Luis Sterling Jr.

Alex does it again
Pretty much everything that Alex Ross touches is gold, but every once in awoke, he does something out of the ordinary. Now I won't lie and say I wish he would stick with the more famous subjects like xmen and wonder woman, these paintings are great too. He seems to have put a little more soul into these as these lesser known comic book figures appear to be a passion for him. That or he has a certain financial stake with Dynamite comics. Whatever the case, these paintings show off he flair for detail and design, and are a worthy addition to any art collection.

A modern master of comic art.
The artwork within is of course beautiful. A modern master of comic art. Made all the better by the fact he uses more natural proportions but can still pull off the "heroic" look and feel. He makes a good argument that all comic art should be using more natural proportional for it's characters.

Another hit for Ross
Unfamiliar with his Dynamite output but nonetheless a fan I purchased this with interest. As usual the work is stunning and once again it leaves a feeling of regret that Ross no longer paints full issues but only covers {a bugbear of mine that includes a number of other comic artists.} The best work in the collection is the stuff done using Marvel characters and to be honest my lack of knowledge of the Dynamite pantheon of heroes did detract a little from my enjoyment but this is a lavish book full of beautiful artwork and commentary on the characters and a worthy addition to the collection of any fan of Alex Ross.

Superb comic art that shimmers of the page
Another great book from Alex Ross collecting some DC characters as well as a whole caboodle of new super heroes and bad guys. The art again is exquisite and takes comic book drawing to a level of unparalleled definition crossing the boundaries of fine art.Pick it up and enjoy the new age master at work.

Disappointed
The content was good but there was a tear on the spine and no dust jacket so it looks to be a used copy

A great book full of beautiful comic book covers and more
I feared that i wouldn't enjoy most of the drawings beacuse i knew little about Dynamite Entertainment but the amount of variety and properties that Alex Ross covers in this book is great. There is also some drawings that he did for Marvel. Every piece of artwork is so amazing and not knowing a bunch of characters that he worked on didn't hinder the experience at all.
