We have two!
Amazing door. We are rookie chicken owners but this door rocks! It worked in -20 temperature (I was out watching and waiting to see if it worked!), and consistently in negative temperatures. Probably due to strong motor and heavy duty battery. Not sure if it will 'crush' a chicken but we have had no issues. Your chickens will probably be scared of it at first which is fine. We have our programed to open a little earlier and close a little bit later just in case. Once all of our chickens started roosting, they are in way better. We've had a few chickens get stuck outside but we always check, especially in cold weather. There is a feature where it'll open back up for 5-10 min to let any stragglers in, but haven't tried.Instal is easy. When we built our coop I wasn't sure which door I wanted to use, so I made the chicken door openings bigger. It wasn't hard to modify ours to fit these doors. We have no issues with this whatsoever. We built our roosts up high and once the chickens figured out what to do we haven't had any stragglers outside. Very expensive but well worth it. Cold weather!!! One last thing. Here is a secret: if you go to the company's website directly you can buy this a little cheaper. That's how we bought our second door. We bought the overhang for $35 (beats making one!) also from the site - and they sell spare parts if you ever need. We both work full time so these doors are perfect. And we like to sleep in on occasion!

Should have bought this years ago!
It works great and was easy to install. I checked on it every mornig and evening to make sure that it was working at first, but not now. My chickens love being let out early in the morning.

I researched a lot of these - US Made and weather-hard!
I inherited a 12' x 16' camping shack on the property I just bought and had no use for it other than to convert it to a chicken coop and rabbit den...yes, they can live together as long as they have their own space! Anywho, after building a sizable run on the outside of the coop, I had to decide on a door. I wanted it to be automatic and able to handle cold, bitter winters. A lot of online reviews probably brought the same ones you've been researching...some with plastic doors, some that have an arm you have to install on the inside wall, and some that you have to set to open on your own. This door, when I came across it from another Amazon review, sold me on buying this door. Here's why...1) It's galvanized steel - chickens probably won't poop on it directly, but let's be realistic, poop will get on it! The steel will not corrode like aluminum will from chicken droppings.2) It is WICKED EASY to set up and use. AND on top of that, the manufacturer has very well written instructions, trouble shooting guides and offers personalized support after purchase. Won't get that from a lot of other companies.3) The door operates on a light sensor - so you don't have to reconfigure the door timer based on the seasons...it does it all on its own. I watched it the first few mornings and evenings...and sure enough, just when the sun started peeking over the horizon and dawn was brightening, the door came open. (closing was the same scenario in reverse) I have a lot of pines growing near the coop and run, so that area does not get full sun until mid-day...so even in a 'shaded' area, the sensor worked perfectly with sunrise and sunset!4) Winter...I haven't tested it in winter yet. At this point, however, I trust the manufacturer's word when he says that none have been returned etc. due to sticking or malfunction in the cold.5) It's made in the USA...'nuff said there. You may go with another brand/model due to price, but I can tell you your money will be well spent

Best chicken auto door
This is my fourth. The company is fantastic. Great communication. So easy to install. Reliable. It needs a warning when the battery is low. One morning it did not open and we found them all locked in. Luckily it was not a hot day. This is why I cannot give five stars. Simple warning would be a huge safety benefit . Second suggestion for battery casing. Find a simpler clip on fastening system. The tiny screws are frustrating and can get stripped or stuck or easily dropped in bedding. No matter what it’s frustrating to run around for a screwdriver when a much simpler quicker unfastener would give quick easy access. It has a safety in it I’m told that a chicken caught in it won’t be killed but it will come down and put pressure before releasing. Not thrilled about that. I have bantams. That would not be good. It has a close and then open in five minutes for late chickens. The eye that detects the time to open or close works fine in covered runs but oddly I have three installed and each opens/closes at different times.
