A CALDECOTT HONOR BOOK “Brilliantly elegant in design and artwork, this perfect picture book retells an old fable, while subtly conveying the concepts of color, numbers, and days of the week.”— School Library Journal "It's a snake," says Green Mouse. "It's a fan!" cries Orange Mouse. "It's a spear," proclaims Yellow Mouse. One by one, the six blind mice investigate the strange Something by the pond. And one by one, they come back with a different theory. It's only when the seventh mouse goes out—and explores the complete Something—that the mice see the whole truth. A lesson in colors, numbers, the days of the week and most important, knowledge, this exquisitely illustrated book has stood the test of time and continues to entertain and teach. Based on a classic Indian tale, Ed Young's beautifully rendered version is a treasure to enjoy again and again. Review: Multi-faceted tale for all ages - While teaching First grade, I read this book multiple times through the year (not only because the children LOVED it). It introduces color words, days of the week, ordinal numbers on a very basic level. But more importantly it teaches a lesson of individual perception. We would discuss what each how each of the mice discovered about the "strange Something" and why they each thought it was something different. When squabbles occurred on the playground, I would reference the seven mice and ask each child what he saw/thought/felt. I recently bought 9 copies of this book to give to the Adult members of our Faith Sharing Group, because we often find ourselves at different points in our faith journey and often acknowledge that we each "know God" from our own experiences and perspective. Excellent Book! Review: Classic Indian Folktale - This gem of a story is needed in this age of so much fake news. It teaches the importance of seeing the whole picture, and not to make false assumptions based on the parts. It is appropriate for all ages.

Seven Blind Mice - great childrens' book
This is a wonderful children's book about seven blind mice and how they each perceive a questionable object in their presence. It is a great book about how we perceive things differently, especially when some have handicaps, in this case, blindness. This book was recommended by one of my wonderful friends, a former kindergarten teacher.

A deeper understanding of life from a child's perspective
This story was shown to me back in 1994. As a child of 6 years old I loved the art style. I had all but forgotten about this book I owned as a child until a very similar looking painting was shown to me in my religion class. I immanently recognized the art style with the colored people and the elephant as a book I had read as a small child (replaced with blind mice). I just ordered it for my daughter of age 7 to read and she was able to read just about every word. I loved being able to explain the idea of looking at the bigger picture with mice and elephants as an example. I feel like I was really able to teach her a life lesson with this book.

Beautiful images, important theme
My grandchild loves this book and I love reading it to him. I know the basic story well and appreciate its messages. This is a new take on the Six Blind Men, but substituting mice probably makes the story more appealing to children. The illustrations are absolutely beautiful.

Very good book
I love this book. I'm already buy like 5 times now, because the children love the story. I buy it for gifts and children enjoy. You can also find it in Spanish so that's super !!!!

盲目のネズミたちと象の話
日本や中国では「群盲評象」や「6人の盲人と象」という話で知られる寓話。7匹のカラフルなネズミの話になっていて、かわいい。

I did not check whether this was a large paperback or a small hardcover. It was the large paperback while I prefer the small hardcover.
