Young lion Vs Old Lion
A good movie. Honestly out of the 3 movies this is not my favourite, but this is still a great movie. In my opinion the second was the best of the 3. The fight scenes are a little differently chorography I can't quite put my finger on it but things were a little different. For me having Iron Mike Tyson and Donnie Yen in a 3 minute fight was worth the price of the DVD alone and the extra interviews.Even though the billing is the fight between Mike and Donnie is the billboard of the movie, this is really just a side story. In fact the paper thin storyline was written simply to give these two a reason to fight. Also these probably did not want to do another movie with a boxer as the main bad guy. The fight itself comes off well. Though they based Tyson's fighting style on power (if there one person you cannot exaggerate punching power for it in Iron Mike), I am glad they did let him display some of his boxing skills, on the speed bag, and compact bobbing and weaving to break the distance. The real storyline is more of a passing of the torch the young lion believing it is his time to challenge the old lion or lions. In the role of the young lion is Cheung Tin-chi (Max Zhang), he is an up and coming street fighter with aspirations of becoming the next IP Man. However to be the best you have to beat the best. However IP Man has his only problems right now. There are a couple of brief appearances Danny Chan Kwok-kwan playing the role of Bruce Lee. Really apart from iconic value I am not sure what the point of this was.

Good and bad
I have to say that part one and two are better.Donnie yen is great as always. I admire the director eventhough the previous movies were directed better. But thats personal. The story starts with a ridiculous actor playing a fool as Bruce Lee. I don,t understand that. Why is that. Are they trying to make Lee look stupid? Also the ending is kind of unwise for a master like yipman. He should have made the decission NOT to fight when he was so called chalenged. Also we as viewers can learn a lot through watching these movies. The art of fighting without fighting is much better because every time people will try to revenge or challenge you. Be wise and think about your actions.

I like the first two better
I like the first two better. This is still a movie full of great fight scenes and even the fight with Tyson was quite credible even though I think he could beat him comfortably but wasn't allowed to. Putting Tyson into the movie was a bit of a desperate attempt to appeal to a broader western audience, a task which he is the wrong person for. Especially badly done was the attempt of making him look like a good and fair guy. After all the news about his 'exploits', he cannot fill such a role.

Ip Man 3 - Complete Waste of Money for Martial Arts Fans
This was a travesty of the Ip Man Triology. I loved Ip Man 1 and 2 and am a great martial arts fan- however, I was so disappointed with this film because it was a pure money-making spin and a waste of money and time. I wish I was left with my memories of just Ip Man 1 and 2. Instead, there is this Ip Man 3 tarnished, cheap, pure story-line film which is obviously aimed at getting us poor (IP Man 1 an 2) mortals to purchase the third film. Save your money, time and memories and best not buy it!

A cut above
This whole Ip Man series has been great; this third in the series has stepped back a little from visual style while aiming for a more complex literary structure with much thought. There are threads that discuss the place of martial arts within society compared with violence in society; the parallel of a person of society and a person of a family; film and violence; honour and skill; learning and knowledge and talent... much more too.Donnie Yen has been proving himself a good actor recently with films like WuXia (dragon) and this film shows him off once again. The GongFu is perhaps the only thing that lets this down, not because it isn't good, but because we have seen better from Donnie Yen.I enjoyed it immensely

It's not bad, but it isn't the first and is probably ...
It's not bad, but it isn't the first and is probably worse than the second, so in comparison it has to drop to 3 stars unfortunately. I would have loved to have seen more realistic takes on IP, flyig on tables to crowbar in Samo in number 2 wasn't great and Mike in this just feels like a story line to spread the franchise rather than learning anything about the character, even at a "based on true story" fictional level. Would have loved it to explore his introduction to Bruce as a story line rather than some over the top kicking of water.

Good film. Not a patch on 1 and 2.
Good film. Stretching the ip story a lot though. Sold on the fact Tyson is in this. He has 10 mins screen time lol. Not bad but rather redundant. Better film than part 4 but not essential for collection. Stick to 1-2.

Three Cheers for Ip Man
Excellent film, possibly even 4.5 out of 5 with lashings of action throughout. My only criticism is the showdown with Mike Tyson near the end whichhad a rather naff conclusion, but that aside it's a welcome return to form for Donnie Yen who's released a few stinkers over the past couple of years. This film is in my opinion as good as the first Ip Man movie and thankfully, far superior to the sequel.
