Belkin Tunebase FM with ClearScan

I previously had the Belkin TuneCast II FM Transmitter which worked well with my MP3 player. It died, and I replaced it with this Tunebase FM transmitter. I'll say that this Tunebase does not work as well as the TuneCast II.ClearScan:The ClearScan function is useless...it seems to select the legitimate radio stations more than the free frequencies. After struggling with it a few days, I gave up and just scan the FM range for a free channel.Static:In the same city, this unit has a lot more static than the old unit. I can never get a clear channel without some background noice. Out on the open interstate between cities, the static is greatly minimized.Base:I like the base. It works well with my iPod gen 7, although the instructions stated the wrong support backing (several are included to handle the difference Apple devices. These serve as guide and support for the iPod when docked). I have no problem with the base moving around. I used the O-ring stabilizer and the base stays in place.In all, I'd buy this again, just because I want to hear my iPod music and there doesn't seem to be any better device on the market.

The Belkin Tunebase FM with ClearScan works great for my classic iPod Generation 7 (I know, old school). I like the fact that that the flexible wire connection between the docking station base and the 12V DC charger power adapter plug is short. It is easy to adjust the position, and it remains in position despite the bumpiness of the road. The ClearScan is a great feature, but does not always give you the best FM station in which to listen to your music, especially in remote, rural areas.PROS:(1) Great, stable connection for classic iPod Generation 7.(2) Two presets for FM stations; however four or five presets would be better.(3) Sound enhance buttons that give a variety of treble and bass responses.CONS:(1) ClearScan is not always reliable (only reason for not giving the product 5 stars).

I have to say I'm disappointed in the performance of this unit. First off, the transmitter signal is weak. You have to jack up the radio volume; and the sound still comes across as thin. It's also susceptible to interference; you get much of the same in and out static that makes FM radio annoying. I have a Sirius radio FM dock that works on the same principal. The signal from this unit is strong and rock solid. It seems the Belkin should be able to achieve similar results. A power switch would be nice too. My Saturn Vue has a hot power jack so the Belkin in always on. In the Belkin's favor, the price is reasonable compared to the $165 that my local car audio store wanted for an FM transmitter.

This is the third FM based ipod player I owned, and it is a significant improvement in the design, functionality, and performance. Other than the Clearscan which was disappointing I found it to be an excellent product for the greater DC area. - Haven't tested it elsewhere yet, but if it works in a metro area it would probably work even better outside.The good:1.Sturdy structure - plug has a tightening ring that keeps the plug firm in the socket (so it doesn't move even when driving on a rough road or sharply turning).2.Two pre-set buttons for FM frequencies on the device are useful when more than one is required in a long trip.3. Sound quality much better than earlier models - clear and loud thanks to an enhancement feature with three optional levels plus mono for areas where no clear frequency is available.4. works better with thin/small units (not the old classic ipod).The bad:1."Clearsacn" feature is useless. Just scans for unused frequencies, but does not search for the optimal one.

It's hard to give a star rating since it didn't work with my ipod, but I wanted to post showing which units it works with since I had seen questions about it. Fast delivery but good grief I hate this thing. For years I've been loyal to the Belkin brand based on my experience that their products performed to expectations and were well-constructed.I'm often fiddling with this POS to get some semblance of clarity from the iPod. Most of the time there's hissing and a myriad of sonic quirks. I've been through the directions a few times to make sure I'm using the product correctly. The digital display is impossible to make out from an angle in the daytime. Still, it's better than nothing but I liked the earlier version of similar Belkin products better.Alas, it's my own fault for putting up with it as long as I have and not returning it.

Wowzer...have been through at least 4 different versions of transmitter over the years. I am not overly demanding, but it has to work. This one works very well!! Unlike some others, when you hit the search for station button, it is instantaneous. the arm is fairly strong, though over a rough road it will sink a bit. I am in a pickup with lots of Dash space, so the positioning of the iPod is perfect. And of course no Crazy wires hanging around. I have had this item for about a month now, and I see no flaws. It charges well, pickups stations, has different settings for interference, has two preset channels, and is easy to use...Have fun with it!

This worked really well for a little while, and then all of a sudden to stopped working altogether. It may have been because we left it in our car, but I would expect an electronic that is designed for the car would be able to be stored there...
