Product description Clannad - An Díolaim - CD .co.uk An Diolaim may come as a bit of a surprise to recent fans of Clannad. Famed these days for their soft-focus Celtic pop and hoisting Enya's new age ambience on the world, back in the day they were a bunch of longhaired hippies who made quite cutting-edge music. At a time when contemporaries such as Planxty were tearing into the tradition, the Donegal based family band were offering a more measured approach. Not that it was without its own thrilling moment, as this compilation of their early material demonstrates. Clannad were always masters of the group vocal (shown to greatest effect on "Dulaman") but were also fantastically subtle instrumentalists. The Northern influence of the harp is seen throughout, the tunes less hectic than the normal jigs and reels but there are also other inspirations creeping in--medieval, a touch of jazz and the hint of the new age sound that was to follow. "Harry's Game" would be a good few years down the line but it's not hard to see how Clannad got there. --Phil Udell

fantastic Albums...
Very nice country folk songs to relax to at any time of the day or eveningI am sure you will find one or two of there albums just fantastic...Five Gold Star albums well worth buying now looking for number 4...Warning... If Driving and feel sleepy playing music STOPPull over and have a tea break....Sleeping at the wheel is... Not good for you....fromSATAN

The voice of Clannad
Why? sometime I just can't tell why I just love the voice the way it is all put together, the combination of the tone and the softness in which way they are singing, and last but not least I love hearing the Galic Language and the way it is by Clannad prenounced

Some old materials
Great music. I just thought it worthwhile for byuer to know that the are only 6 new songs on this album. The rest have be released on older albums.

Clannad is always good and this one is no exception to the rule. Clannad provide a really good Celtic sound where every song is different to the last, creative and inspiring music

Bought on a Whim
I bought 'Magical Ring' and 'Banba' and thought I would give the early works a try, however this album is not for me. I prefer the more refined version of "Coinleach Ghlas an Fhómhair" on 'Magical Ring'.

Nur was für echte Fans
Wenn man sich richtig für die irish music interessiert, dann ist man mit dieser CD gut bedient. Man hört die frühe aber authenthische Musik von Clannad, für manche vielleicht ungewohnt, aber diese Musik hat Clannad bekannt gemacht, auch wenn vieles in gaelic gesungen wird.Ich finde diese CD sollte nicht im Regal fehlen wenn man sich die `alten` Clannad anhören möchte.

very original and hearty Clannad
the first time I listen to this CD is dl mp3 (the whole disc)the Clannad then is completely different! sound is more like Folk than New Agethe whole disc sound is so beautiful, only Anam and Banba can comparethough the early-age recording, Maire sounds incredible, her sound is as good as Karen Carpenter (may be better)then I decide to get the CDafter listening the whole CD, I admitAn Diolaim, Anam, and Banba are my favorite album of Clannadno matter you're a die-hard Clannad fans or not, this one is A MUST collection
