Trying to provide interesting modified food that didn't look either like something that a sick dog left on the door mat, or a pond of stagnant water is a challenge. Without The Dysphagia Cookbook, I would have been lost. It has a wonderful foreword and introduction which not only explains the physical aspect of dysphagia , but also contains personal understanding of the day to day living and eating hurdles that need to be constantly addressed. It brought tears to my eyes, for here was someone who understood how I was feeling. Even my husband who, developed dysphagia overnight with no discernible cause remarked that here was someone who had walked this path.American supermarket shelves must be wonderful places to shop for sufferers of swallowing difficulties, but with a little imagination, the recipe and shopping ideas can be adapted to Australian products. This book has changed my approach to this problem that came so late in our lives. Now I spend more time in the kitchen, my husband is maintaining his weight, looks healthy, and remains active.

An excellent book. Well worth every penny spent!
This cookbook is an excellent resource for people with dysphagia. It is written by people with experience and professional knowledge of the subject. It has lots of practical info for resources and food. Recipes look very tasteful and good for everyone to share. It provides recipes for different consistencies depending on the stage or needs of persons with dysphagia.

Great ideas and help for those who need soft foods
After my father's third stroke, he is unable to eat solid foods and must be on a feeding tube. He is able to have pureed foods once a day for comfort. But, where does one start? How do you keep the pureed food interesting and go beyond applesauce and mashed potatoes? Well, this book will help! Lots of recipes and helpful advice when this may otherwise be an overwhelming situation for a spouse or caregiver.

No serving quantities.
I ordered this cookbook to create pureed meals for my mother who was recently diagnosed with dysphagia. When it arrived, I was excited to check out the recipes only to discover that none of the recipes showed serving quantities or for that matter prep and cooking time. Some were obvious like those that called for 1lb. of meat but others weren’t so obvious. And let’s face it, chances are you are not cooking and pureeing these recipes for an entire family with swallowing difficulties. There is another issue that specifically impacts the usability of this for my mother’s dietary needs. She has GERD and many of the recipes contain items, like onions, tomatoes and garlic that off limits due to reflux. I realize that highly seasoned pureed foods are more palatable but they don’t fit her dietary needs. I gave it three stars because the book never claimed to address reflux issues.

Useful but
Very small print distracting.

This book was a waste of my time
This book was a waste of my time. My dad can only eat his food pureed and the recipes in this are just like any other regular cookbook. In the beginning there is an explanation on dysphagia but besides that you are on your own trying to figure out how to puree anything. Very misleading!

Nutritional Info Missing
It would have been extremely helpful if nutritional information had been included, particularly for people who need high protein foods. Also, the typeface is particularly annoying.
