Great Little RC Boat (after minor modification) for the price!
Thanks to earlier reviews, I knew to be skeptical about the sea-worthiness of this boat. So, I started by examining it closely and using some sealant to waterproof the hull. Clearly at this price, this boat was not designed or executed with German precision engineering. There was a sizable gap in places along the deck line, where the deck meets with the hull. Had I not taken the time to seal that with silicone, this little boat would probably have take on water and shorted out the electronics. But since i DID seal it up in advance, we now have a perfectly good, and most enjoyable RC boat. We've taken it out on major lakes, ponds, pools, etc without any trouble. It's fairly quick, and the battery lasts longer than other rechargeable RC boats we've had. Our four and seven year olds have a blast with it. At the time we ordered this, it was VERY inexpensive, and a good sized boat. As long as you take the time to seal it up in advance with some clear silicone from your local Home Depot (the kind used for water proofing around a sink works well), you'll have a great toy for the price. Make sure you let the silicon cure overnight, before putting the boat in water. And, you'll want to be careful NOT to seal up the battery compartment. Just seal up the hull. The battery compartment has it's own pressure seal (although very cheap), that works just fine. Be careful not to force the plastic cover lever, or it'll break. Use the silicone sealant sparingly, so you don't end up with goop sticking out everywhere. A nice, thin bead along the edge of the hull should work just fine. The clear stuff will be less noticeable than any other color, especially once it's in the water. Our son has thrown the boat into the lake from our pontoon boat, and it did took off like it was meant to be launched just like that.Other reviewers mentioned that the motor has a safety feature, which prevents the propellers from spinning unless the unit sits in water. This is an important feature for little hands. Unfortunately, the instructions that come with the unit aren't exactly clear on this. On the deck of the ship itself, there is a small "pad" created by two resistors. You may even notice a small arrow with the picture of a finger next to it. This is supposed to let you know that you can test the motor by placing your finger on that "pad" while the boat is out of the water. Had it not been for earlier reviewers, I too might have thought the motor is broken. I was a bit surprised by the safety feature on this boat. I guess cheap doesn't have to mean stupid or dangerous.Look, "real" RC boats can easily cost hundreds of dollars, so you can't expect a whole lot here. I don't understand other commenters who wrote "cheap Chinese junk". And? Show me another toy that will cost as little and do as much, made in the USA? We paid under $30 for this setup, and at that price, this was a great buy. Just remember to seal it first. Once the electronics are wet, that's it. It's a paper weight.

Very poor quality!
I bought this 20" RC Boat Navy Battle Ship HT-2877 (Color and Exact Model May Vary) for my son for the Christmas. It was the 1st controlled boat I gave to him. So, he was so excited and wanted to run right away. But as soon as I opened the box, I saw the torpedo was broken off and laid at a corner. A few other small broken plastic pieces were also around but not affect the look. The packing seems to be all fine. It did not look like the package was abused. But I could see the quality of the boat was not good since it was not a strong one with solid build. When I picked it up or held it for putting in the batteries, I had to be extra carefully since I was afraid something else would be broken again. Basically, you need to handle it with great care which a young boy usually does not have. Then I discovered the controller did not work at all! I thought it might have a switch hidden somewhere but I could not find any. The light on it never went on no matter what I tried. I read others' reviews and thought maybe I had to put the boat in the water even though it seems funny that could affect how the controller works. But I tried anyway. Based on the instruction on the box, I also used my hand to touch the resistors on the boat's deck. No use either. That was for getting the boat work not the controller. But I did it since I thought whether it was just the light on the controller did not work and it could have actually controlled the boat. But it was not the case! Eventually I found an old toy car's controller at home and tried to see if I could use that one. It proved that the controller for the boat was defective.Unfortunately my toy car's controller was not a good fit since it has one stick going front/back and the other left/right. We had to twist our minds in order to control the boat. But my son still had fun and did not want me to return the boat. But I had no place to find support on solving the controller problem. All what Amazon could do for me was to send me a new unit and asked me to return the old one.I got the new unit last night. As soon as I opened the box, I could see the torpedo was broken off again. I did not even try to take out the boat at all! It was still bound to the foam protecting it by a wire. So, I think it was the build was very weak. Actually you could see the low quality by looking at the materials they used and very poor man work. But all what I needed was a good and working controller. Unfortunately, the new one did not work at all either. Again, I tried all over it to see if there was a switch. NO! There were a couple of place looking like one. But actually not. Again!! The light did not even come on. It meant it did not work at all!! How could I make it control the boat! So, two units both have defective controllers. That is super bad quality. Where had been the quality control?!Honestly, I had bought many toy cars or helicopters made in China. I even got some when I visited there. The quality of this one will make it even a cheap one over there. You can probably find this type in those small street side vendors. I could tell by that no instruction in the box, poor packing, and poor build of the boat. $30 is fair. I think it probably should be only for $20 over there. The problem is that we cannot find a good quality one at this price range here. BTW, the boat itself could run well. The speed was good and response to my own controller was also good. So, my son felt good but he only did the controller and I took care of everything else. Otherwise, it would be broken in one run.

This is a great deal for r/c boat scratch builders.
If you want to make a remote control navy boat and like the look of this one then it is a great place to begin your build. You should be prepared to carefully disassemble the deck from the hull to remove and replace the electronics. You will need a sharp pin to lift the plugs out of the screw holes on the deck then remove the screws.. Carefully desperate hull and deck then you can view the interior space and decide on your radio, servos, rudder, speed control, and drive train upgrades. Assume that the radio and electronics will not work before you buy and you won't be disappointed. The $30 dollar price for what you get in parts is a great deal when you realize the seller makes less than $12 to bring it in to the country and transport it to you. The price will never be this low from China unless you buy 500 pieces at one time and pay to bring them all in. This is a great deal for scratch builders!

It's OK, but not as expected.
A couple quick comments that may be useful. This thing is very cheaply made as most reviewers state, and I expected that going in. I had, however, hoped that I could open up the hull easily and gut the boat to add hobby grade stuff once it had died. Unfortunately the deck isn't screwed down to the hull, it appears that plastic studs were melted down to make the connection. There is also no rudder and the motors appear to be in two pods under the hull so the boat drives like a tank. It's an ok fun boat, but when it stops working in its original configuration it is pretty much done for. The boats in the toy stores for around this price usually have removable decks, interior motor/s, rudder/s and use regular batteries. On those cheap boats the components could be easily replaced or upgraded. I had just liked the military style of this boat and hoped it would be similar.

Boat disaster!
Cheap product. No instruction manual. Limited directions on the bottom of the box that were very unclear (needed to be written or edited by someone who spoke English). If you were going to put the boat on water (who wouldn't put a remote controlled boat on water?), you needed to put a cork in the vent!???I couldn't decipher how to work the boat, so I request a return. The company sent me the return label, but when I went to the post office I learned the cheapest way I could send it back to California would cost $69.97. The boat originally cost $38, so it didn't make any sense to pursue a refund.I awallowed the loss.
