This is a good hard drive, but you'll probably get a used/"refurb" regardless of whether it says new or not. Use a SMART tool like CrystalDiskInfo to make sure Power On Hours aren't too high (preferably less than a year) and there's no reallocated or pending sectors (CrystalDiskInfo will usually mark those yellow instead of blue)

solid drive for my home RAID.. at these prices updating drives before failure makes sense.

Nice hard drives

Just what I needed for an older desktop, high quality and surprisingly inexpensive. The original package and instructions were not included, nor any software. However, installation is obvious. Just pop it in, Windows will format it with a few clicks, and you're off and running. Now I look forward to 5-10 years worry free.

After 7 days at most, I started getting S.M.A.R.T errors. Every time I reboot my computer, it goes to a black screen that says "1720-SMART hard drive detects imminent failure".I downloaded the Western Digital lifeguard diagnostics and it said the drive has bad sectors and needs replaced.The product description states:"Thermal extended burn-in tested - each drive is put through extended burn-in testing with thermal cycling to ensure reliable operation"But mine failed in the first week of using it. Now I have to pay to return the defective part, and have NO computer while I wait for them to receive my part and then ship me a replacement.Makes me wonder if mine was actually new or if they just gave me some refurbished one.I'm not happy about having to pay for return shipping. Now I have to take time out of my busy day and go find a Fed Ex or UPS store so I can ship this back. If they would've just emailed me a prepaid shipping label, I could ship it from work.Awesome.

Received a brand new hard drive as advertised. Manufacture date of 2014. Installed and running in a Dell T620 RAID10 without issue.

This drive is one of the new generation of RE3 drives that supercede the old RE2 drives. They are relatively expensive for their storage capacity but their reliability is excellent. In use, they are fast and quiet. So if you want a fast, quiet and RELIABLE drive and are more concerned with quality that quantity, this is a great device!But if you want the most storage for the least money, you might want to look at other, cheaper drives.Update 12 months later:I have two of these drives and they are still working beautifully. Fast and quiet. :)Update Feb 2012:My two WDs are still spinning quietly away in my PC without incident.

1 Stück hat gerade mal 1 Monat durchgehalten, das zweite Exemplar funktionierte überhaupt nicht- gehen beide zurück.Von einer RE3-HDD hätte ich mehr Qualität erwartet, zumal dieselbe Type in meinem Rechner mehr als sieben Jahre lang problemlos im 24x7-Betrieb gelaufen ist.

Bis jetzt laufen die von mir verbauten Platten im RAID 1 Betrieb sehr gut. Die Kapazität ist nicht besonders groß, reicht allerdings für die benötigte Anwendung. Auch im Punkt Geschwindigkeit und Lautstärke gibt es nichts zu beanstanden Für eine Platte mit 5 Jahren Garantie ein gutes Preis/Leistungs-Verhältnis
