Samsung BAR Plus 64 GB Type-A 200 MB/s USB 3.1 Flash Drive Titan Grey (MUF-64BE4)

I needed a solid state drive to record multitrack audio channels from a QSC Touchmix 16 digital mixing desk. QSC recommend a number of SSD drives and also a similar Samsung USB flash drive. I bought this model for its speed (USB 3.0 / 300mbps) and it’s generous capacity (128GB) as well as it’s lower cost compared to more expensive SSD drives! I have now tried it and can confirm that it does indeed work wth the QSC Touchmix Mixing desk and has successfully recorded multitrack audio files! I can’t confirm the exact read/write speeds of the device but it’s obviously quite fast to be able to record around 16 channels of audio direct to the stick. It is nowhere near as fast as an SSD drive (as expected) but fulfilled its purpose successfully! It will only deliver the higher speeds when used with a USB 3.0 compatibile device but is backwards compatible with USB 2.0 also. This device is decent value for money as it offers around 128GB of (fairly fast) storage space for a competitive price! It is also quite robust having a metal construction and is also small in size and weight! In addition it has a handy keyring loop to avoid loss and keep it safe during transportation. Recommended!

7 years later and it still works ...

I carry my USB key on my keyring in my pocket all the time, so the plastic ones usually break around the loop, but this one is metal and tough as nails. A little of the anodising has worn away on the edges, but this doesn't look bad and if you're a regular carrier it's to be expected. The speed is excellent and well in excess of the previous USB3 drive that it replaced. Of course you have to be using it with a machine that's capable of keeping up, and DON'T try to use it with Windows XP, as it doesn't work with it (as a friend found out). When you do use it with a modern machine it is a real speed machine. I did test it when I first got it, as previous 128gb flash drives have been slow in my experience, but I'm pretty sure it was somewhere around 300mb/s. On a less capable machine with early editions of USB3 or ye olde USB2 you won't get quite that sort of speed, but you can rest assured that you're getting the most out of your machine, and when you do trade up your Samsung Bar will be able to keep up. I'd buy this again in an heartbeat.

I got this to help me transfer files from my laptiop to my tablet and also for watching downloaded video on my XBOX. This Samsung USB Stick is perfect because it is plug and play, comes with nothing installed on it and has fast read write speeds. It's also got a metal casing so is very solid and robust. It's perfect for playing videos on my XBOX and I have had no issues with the media when being played directly from this Samsung Stick. I have dropped a star off because it states it's 64GB however there is only 59.7GB free space which is a little disappointing.

I was not expecting this device to be so small but it doesn't bother me. But do make sure you attach this to a key chain or the like because this device will definitely be prone to being lost or misplaced. I'm not one to gripe about speeds. These days you hardly ever find a drive that has the speed that the item depicts so why bother complaining about it? Besides it all depends on the quality of your particular drive, the device onto which you're transferring data, the USB port, etc. And this drive seems to do just fine. Do I wish it was faster? Sure. Do I wish all drives were faster? Of course. As long as the drive isn't slower than molasses in winter, I couldn't care less. Anyway, for the most part, USB drives have decent enough speeds and 99% of the time you get what you pay for (in a good way). I see complaints about the USB being scratched when entering and exiting the USB ports. USBs and USB ports have been around for 15 years, so this should be common sense by now. I don't understand how everyone isn't aware that when you're plugging and unplugging a USB in and out of a port, you're scraping metal against metal. What do you expect? Literally, all of my USB flash drives and USB charging cables have those specific line scratches. Even if a particular port is loose, scratches are inevitable because people plug their USBs into other ports and some ports or USBs will have a tighter fit. Unless you're a USB flash drive collector, oddly, don't worry about the aesthetics of the drive. Plus, you can always get the white version if it bugs you as white hides scratches easier. Overall, superb drive and no complaints. Worth the money.

Not much to review, it is one of the faster drives out there, but only the higher capacity drives 128GB onwards has the 300MB/s read speed, anything lower than 128GB I.e. 64 and 32GB only has 200MB/s read speed. It's USB 3.1 in other words USB 3.0. It has a bit of weight to it and indicates a good quality drive. Bit of an odd shape to it, I assume this allows either a lanyard to be fitted or something to grip onto when pulling out from the USB port. Nice and small, measures 40mm in length and 11mm wide, tallest part being 13mm. Not much else to say, only had it a couple of weeks and have had no issues, although this would have to be put through years of usage before being able to comment on reliability.

***It is important to know that USB 2 / 3 is just a connection standard, this does not automatically mean you will get / saturate 3.0 speeds on for example a £10 USB 3.1 will not compete with this Samsung as the actual quality of the memory / flash matters more and the less expensive drive will much slower regardless.*** This USB by Samsung is amazing and most likely the best value you can get a the moment for around £24 I highly recommend getting the 128gb version for the 300 MB/s it is well worth it. When writing a ISO disk to the USB I got around 110 MB/s which is impressive, the stick itself does get a little warm but this is expected and is not anywhere near as warm as some others I have tried (looking at you Sandisk ) Please note you are not guaranteed to get these speeds, you need a USB 3 or hopefully 3.1 standard to get the most out of it, also it was tested on a drive with no contents.

The 64 GB version of this Bar Plus is a little faster than it's predecessor, the Memory Bar, registering Benchmark 'write' speeds of 65M/s but with the 128 GB version, I'm getting 123 to 133 MB/s; and that's the write speed. They both have read speeds of over 200 MB/s but when it comes down to daily usage, it's the write speed that I really affects your day... Most memory sticks will copy a couple of hundred megabytes really fast, but that's just filling the cache - then they start to quickly slow down. In my experience, these Bar Plus sticks maintain a higher write speed for longer than any I've tried. I'm forever copying 5 to 50 MB of video files onto these things and I get frustrated when it takes to long. These really are the the most efficient I've found for that purpose. I think some reviewers were unlucky and got faulty ones, I've never had one let me down (apart from when I've messed up the formatting by using one for an o/s, and then as an installer, and then back to file storage).

Praticamente, a parte la "coda" che si allarga un po', sta tutta nel profilo della porta USB; in effettti la sua compattezza forse non traspare dalle immagini. Le prestazioni sono molto buone; naturalmente dipendono dalle dimensioni del blocco e dal tipo di operazione, comunque in sequenziale ho rilevato fino a 300 MB/s in lettura e fino a 85 MB/s in scrittura. Per copie reali di file grandi siamo in media sui 250-280 in lettura e 70-78 in scrittura. La chiavetta scalda, ed è normale, ma non in modo fastidioso o pericoloso. Non va in throttling termico e non "bara" con la cache: mantiene le prestazioni anche dopo decine di GB copiati consecutivamente. E' data come resistente all'acqua, agli urti, ai campi magnetici, ai raggi X. Due soli difetti per me, ma abbastanza importanti: - manca un LED di attività. Anche se piccolo, l'avrei voluto: lo trovo utilissimo - manca la protezione allo spinotto: non rientra e non c'è un tappo Nel complesso comunque, la ricomprerei senz'altro. Ottimo rapporto qualità/prezzo

I've used the Samsung products is the past and found them to be excellent quality and ... neat looking. I use this as a multi-boot USB device, with a System Rescue partition and a Windows installation partition; as well as a large storage partition.
