I’ve tried 2 previous PTG that were garbage. I’m going some paint work basecoat / clear coat & have used this the measure layers as they go on. It works. Reading make sense & are verifiable & consistent. Also measured paint on multiple cars & got consistent accurate readings

This results in accurate readings that can be further improved with the device's ZERO reset key and CAL calibration key.The measuring range of 0-1500um and accuracy of ±(3%+2um) ensure that the device is reliable and provides precise measurements. The large LCD display with backlight also makes it easy to read the measurements in any lighting condition.I appreciated the two available units (mm/mil) and two measurement modes (single point measurement/fast continuous measurement), as well as the high/low alarm function and the ability to set any alarm thickness value. The MAX/MIN Value function is also useful for keeping track of the range of measurements taken.As for cons, I found that the device's battery life was not as long-lasting as I would have liked. Additionally, the device's size may make it less portable than some users would prefer.Overall, the MESTEK Digital Gauge is a great tool for checking the quality of paint coating thickness, and it has a wide range of uses beyond just automotive applications. So I have a spot on my van that was fixed from an accident and tested it there and tested it on an area that I know was not damaged and resprayed. The resprayed area was showing a reading different than other spots on the car that tested all similar except that area I know was resprayed. This confirms accuracy for me personally and if you have a shady dealership claiming clean title you can see if there was respray of the vehicle with this. Now I cannot attest to the perfection of accuracy scientifically, but for the purpose of seeing if a repainting was done in certain spots on car this will tell you.All in all I recommend.

This is an interesting testing device. It is very fast. Useful for restoring painted surfaces when it would help to know how thick the paint coating is.This small device has some weight to it. Although the display screen is sort of small, it is very adequate, given that it displays results that are numbers only. Tested it on several painted surfaces, but can't gauge how accurate the numbers are.It would be good for measuring the paint thickness of a vehicle when it looks like there has been an area that may have been damaged but repaired.This tester performs well at returning test results. Hard to judge the value of it.This feels like it is durably made and should be useful for a while.

This gauge is extremely easy to use and the calibration is spot on out of the box. This is essential if you plan on doing any aggressive paint correction to make sure you still have enough paint without burning through. It has a nice large, easy to read display even in direct sunlight.The display will show you if the metal underneath is ferrous or non-ferrous (steel or aluminum). You can only use this meter on a metal surface. I don't have experience with other paint depth meters, but I am assuming they are all the same way. It would be nice if you could read the depth of paint on things like plastic bumper covers, but I have not researched to see if that is even possible on any of these gauges.While I was testing it I used it on multiple different vehicles and found out that it looks like older cars have thicker paint. I was averaging 130-150um on vehicles made in the last 3-5 years. But on vehicles in the 15-20 year range the average was closer to 200um. That is probably not important, just thought it was a neat phenomenon.Overall I am very happy. The price seems to be right in line with where I would expect and it seems like a high quality gauge. I like that they send you all of the materials needed to calibrate it and it looks simple enough to do judging by the instructions.

The paint thickness gauge is a good quality device. The ease of use is a plus. The gauge is pretty accurate and it is a must before correcting a vehicle. The gauge measures how much you have to work with. I would recommend this

This very easy to use thickness gauge seems to be quite accurate when measuring the thickness of non-conductive coatings like paint that have been applied over metal substrates, and the large display is very easy to read.Once you read the instructions and understand its functions all you really have to do to use it is turn it on; choose whether you want single readings or continuous readings where it will constantly measure and display readings as you slide it along a surface; select between measurements in mils or micrometers; and its ready to go. You don't need to push any additional buttons, just place the probe gently on the surface you want to measure and the reading automatically displays the result. If you are in single point measurement mode, simply lift the unit and place it on another spot and a new reading will appear. It's that simple.

Fonctionne parfaitement sur métal, mais inutile sur plastique ou carbone.

Goede prijs kwaliteit. Robuust en met calibratie en dat ook voor None Ferro.

Man hat alles dabei was man braucht, er hat nur 3% Messtolleranz und das nicht nur auf Metall wie die Meisten sondern auf allen Flächen, außer Plastik.Super finde ich auch das Zubehör, und man kricht alles in den sehr Alcantara-like-Beutel.

Das Gerät misst die Lackschichtdicke auf Aluminium und Stahl gut und zuverlässig. Allerdings sind die Reaktionszeiten etwas langsam. Dafür habe ich ich einen Stern angezogen.
