But they can't be anything too thin like a 2
These handles are extremely limited. Of course you have to have 3 plates on each side. But they can't be anything too thin like a 2.5 or 1.25 plate or else it won't get tight. I would think that the washer that fits under the large bolt would be hollowed out on the inside so that the shaft the bolt goes into can stick out a millimeter or 2. I had to use a cardboard shim between the plates to get it tight.

perfectly standard 25mm dumbell grips. Works fine with my mixed set of grey weights from a variety of manufacrturers.
