Very few dead.
I read a lot of reviews stating that there were a lot of dead ones and there wasn't quite 500, but mine were healthy and plenty enough to keep that simple lizard alive for a while. Anyway here is some advice for keeping them nuisance free as possible. I keep mine in a 5 gallon bucket in the basement, when you go to transfer them into a container do so in low light because light and vibrations make them get jumpy. When it comes to keeping the smell down try to separate the dead ones out as best as you can and don't use that flukers cricket food because it ends up smelling like pure ammonia, it's the worst. I just use a small handful of cat food and some potato slices which they quickly turn into a grey husk and these kind never chirp they just click around a lot, hope this helps.

Bad packaging
Ok so to start this review to let everyone know I work for the Postal Service and have seen live animals and bait come in on trucks before so for my first time ordering 1/4 in crickets for my red-earded turtle I thought I was going to do ok because I have seen some really good sturdy boxes well ventilated for even crickets come through. But with this company which had an amazing story to tell on their site I thought ok I'll give them a try ..I had been getting them from petsmart and they are very expensive seeing as I found out my baby turtle was caught illegally and needed to be fed wild food until I could transition him to a more nutritious packed food but anyway this company was awful I opened the door to a regular packaged box no kind of air vents or screening on the sides and automatically knew this was not gonna be good but thought ok so I cut the tap on the box and immediately they started jumping out everywhere..How in the world was I supposed to transfer them into the critter keeper I bought ?? Other than loosing half to escape almost 200 were dead and I had to dump the box into a black garbage bag and use a cup to scoop them out omg I'll never order from this place again..I was expecting the boxes I have seen come in at work with actual netting holes to where you could see them and even open to transfer them but with this no..There were also 2 half of a rotten potatoe inside with dead crickets stuck to it I felt so bad although they are food for my turtle but still ..I learned my lesson but for further customers it was not worth the 21.00 I spent..and the picture shown with the grey box and ventilated on the sides is not how it arrives ....11/6/2019

Crickets arrived quickly & in very good shape!
I opened the box & it was just filled with crickets & they are the perfect size. I really didn’t see many dead ones. I know ordereding crickets can be tricky because the weather can affect the order & a lot of the time it’s not the fault of the company. Extreme temperatures can & will affect the crickets & is probably the biggest cause of receiving dead crickets. A lot of the time, the incompetence of the postal workers will affect that as well because I’ve had them leave my package clearly stating “live insects” in the sun & killed my whole order in the past. I was pleasantly surprised at the condition my crickets arrived in. Also my order came more quickly than I expected. Overall I’m very happy with my order & intend to order from this place again. 🙂

Listen to everyone, it's nowhere near 500 crickets!
Arrived in about a week or so which was fine but I deperately needed them as I was only feeding my beardies a omnivore freeze dried mix. Box looks sturdy and labeled well. Presentation is great. Key word presentation, though. Although I expected it as it is completely normal, there were a few dead crickets in the box. What really upset me was the fact there was no where near 500. Now I have to go another week without food for my dragons because I had anticipated not having to order again so soon. I cut a hole in the side of the box and let about 20 out per feeding before taping the hole back up. I thought the majority of them were hiding within the egg carton and I couldn't see them. 5 days later, as I noticed no more coming out of the hole, I had to cut the box open and open the egg carton only to find just a few more. The purpose of buying online is because it's supposed to be more economical as it is cheaper. Petco charges 5.99 for 36 but $10 for 500-1000 online.... So, If it's roughly $12.99 for 70 from Petco and $12 for 100 from this seller, I am not saving much and it makes no sense to continue business. False advertising in the flesh.

My lizards are happy with these crickets.
Update: I contacted the seller about my concern. Although they did not feel it was possible to mistake my order, they sent another box of crickets. They shipped it immediately and I received the box quickly with only about 30 dead crickets. The second box also was labeled as 250 ct, but I’m guessing there were probably 500 in there.Original: My shipment arrived with only 250 crickets but I ordered 500. There were also probably 50+\- of them dead. The crickets shipped fairly quickly and arrived within a week of ordering.

My beardie loves them.
The first time I ordered the crickets did not make it to me alive due to being lost In transit. The company offered the choice of a refund or a replacement. I took the replacement. They got here in like 3 days. They were all alive except for the 2 that tried to escape. There was definitely 500 in the box. If not more. The only issue I have is that I ordered mediums, but I got small ones. I will not complain because the extra ones will make up. I will definitely order from them again.

Don't waste your money.
When I got them, there was about 500 but even with food for the crickets, they all died in about 3 days, I only bought these cos the local pet store was out of crickets. Unless you've got about 5 or 6 animals that eat them, don't waste your money on these. They took like a week to get anyways so I'm sure they were about to die. I mean it shouldn't take a week to get something from SC to WI.

Tasty lizard food
I was cleaning my house the other day and moved some old amazon boxes (haha) to find this tiny little alligator lizard just standing there looking at me 😳 so I scooped him up and put him in a box and set him up proper, and ordered these for him. He loves them!! I don’t see hardly any dead ones at all, either! Never caught a cricket or fed one to a lizard in my life before this lol so far so good
