Bought this intending to then purchase the official Sulstrans map, but don't think I will need that now.Very detailed description of the route broken down into manageable sections.Easy to read and follow with lots of information about the route.Would highly recommend this book to anyone doing the C2C.

From Whitehaven to Sunderland this book was the perfect companion.The writing throughout is informative and evocative, complemented by some stunning scenic photography. The attention to detail on the maps, and accompanying written directions, makes it near impossible to take a wrong turn since each mile is marked off and counted. Also pinpointed is a wide variety of accommodation, from B&Bs and Inns to YHAs and campsites. The elevation profiles helped enormously in knowing when to schedule a break and giving notice of the type of riding surface to expect.Being spiral bound allowed me to repeatedly fold the book in half without damaging the spine and it fit perfectly in my handlebar bag map holder. The inside front cover is gate fold, displaying an overall map of the route. This proved a quick and handy reference.If you only buy one Coast to Coast book then make it this one. You won’t need another one.

An essential guide book if you're planning on cycling the C2C between Whitehaven/Workington and Tynemouth/Sunderland. Nice clear colourful maps and plenty of points of interest and useful advice such as lodgings and written in a matter of fact style. It's pocket sized and ringbound and the cover has a nice water resistant, hard wearing feel to it, so it shouldn't turn to mush when you're on your bike in the inevitable rain!

Very useful guide to a truly great cycling route.Agree with the other reviewer that contour lines would be a help (as well as the elevation diagrams for each section)One small section of an off road variant of the route didn't seem to be covered. also the variant nenthead to stanhope via weardale isn't inOther than that - darned good!
