Great recounting of a little-known event
A thorough examination and recounting of the burning of the Gaspee, which ran aground off of Newport, RI in June of 1772. A group of locals rowed out to the schooner at night and burned it, shooting its commander in the process. This event clearly was a significant step in the march toward open rebellion, and ranks as important as the Boston Massacre or the Boston Tea Party in moving the colonies toward unification and rejection of British rule. All in all, a good read and very informative! I highly recommend it to any history buffs of the Revolutionary War times.

A Fascinating Piece of American History
This is a fascinating and well-written book! Not being from or living in Rhode Island, I had never heard the account of the Gaspee, but am certainly glad to know now. I can't understand why this story isn't included as a standard well-known part of our early American history. Thank you, Rory Raven, for telling it. Highly recommended reading. (I appreciate the author's sense of humor, too.)

Lots of Detail Bring it to LIfe.
Easy to read story with a great deal of detail about the preceding events, the attack, and the subsequent lives of the participants. I used it as the primary resource about the Gaspee for my website at PatriotsAndRedcoats.Com.

A fantastic read, truly gripping
A fantastic read, truly gripping! I was reading the lead up to the burning of the Gaspee to my husband over dinner, it was that enthralling. History books can be dry, but this one certainly is not! Bravo to Mr. Raven for this one, it is truly enjoyable.
