Great buy!!
This dutch oven was an amazing addition to our gear on a camping trip to a hike-in site (with wheelbarrow) with four children.I am not an experienced camper. I camped every summer growing up- but we had a three room tent with a screened in porch, air mattresses, and a two burner camp stove. That tent was really more of a compound. My husband grew up camping with only what he could carry on his back. His army experience as an adult just enhanced his minimalist nature. Between kids, work, pregnancies, illnesses... we were planning our first, long overdue, family camping trip since I was pregnant with my first biological child (the three year old). Our kids are 2, 3, 7, and 11 years of age. I planned on getting a camp stove, bringing pots and pans, towels, seasonings, yada yada yada. That sure didn't fly with my delightful huibby. Trail mix and jerky for three days?!? That didn't fly with me either. Our compromise was a cast iron dutch oven and as much food as I could fit into a cooler. Challenge accepted! :-) I love cooking and food and I wanted this family vacation to satisfy my taste buds and my desire to nurture my kiddosWe had a hike-in site that wasn't too far from the parking lot, but it WAS uphill. We used a wheelbarrow to bring our heavy gear up the mountain on a hard-packed path. This dutch oven isn't light and I wouldn't recommend carrying it on a long hike. I had a lot of fun planning some creative and well balanced meals. This dutch oven was already cured before it arrived, but we wiped off the wax coating and did one more cure in the oven before taking it with us on the camping trip. I have never had such an easy time cleaning after cooking over an open flame. We didn't' even have to open the chain mail scrubber that I bought and took with us. It was able to be cleaned with dish soap and a regular dish sponge. After getting it clean, we dried it really well over the fire. Before storing it with our camping gear, we coated it with oil and put wadded up newspaper in it to protect it from rust.In it we made: pasta with meat balls and squash, chili for chili cheese dogs with salad, freeze dried creamy chicken soup with rice to go with our hobo pouches, oatmeal, and boiled water for coffee, etc... We used it exclusively hanging from the tripod with wood as fuel, and so didn't get to try out any baking in it yet. I didn't use the lid as a frying pan yet but am SUPER excited to give that a try on our next camping trip. The capacity was great for our group size. We were three hearty eater adults, and four kids. On average, we had about one full serving left over each night. On pasta night we ONLY ate from the pot. It was full to capacity and super carby, so we had almost half left over.I would get this Dutch oven ten times over. Its great!!

Great quality buy
I love this dutch oven. I used it many times last season and I can't wait to get it into the coals this year. It seasoned well and is nice a hefty. I have made everything from campfire pasta to peach cobbler in it and everything just keeps turning out awesome! I wish I could use it in my kitchen everyday.

Great old pot that needs tender loving season
I'm still seasoning the pot. Can't cook with it yet. Already seasoned means nothing. My camper friends try to steal it, all the time. Great old pot that needs tender loving season.

... I picked this dutch oven was because of the cool touch handle
Part of the reason why I picked this dutch oven was because of the cool touch handle. According to the picture of the product the handle should have that spring thing to keep the handle cool, but my dutch ovens did not have it. I will post more of my review after I use it.

Great quality.
I ordered the smaller of the two and I think the quality is great! Very nice oven. Note that it does not include the spiral handle as pictured. The seller was easy to work with regarding this issue.

A good heavy piece of iron
A good heavy piece of iron. I made a cheesecake using charcoal as my first attempt and it turned out delicious. (I burned the crust a little bit but that was my fault.) I also cooked stew on a fire. I bought it to go camping but we haven't gone yet

The lid does not seal
The lid on these are suppose to be perfect so it can cook with the heat. But the lid or the pot itself is too oval.
