Insightful and engaging- read and share!
This book has fantastic insights, relevant not only for women entrepreneurs but also for those trying to make their way in other male-dominated fields. Yesil describes her journey- starting with her move from Turkey to attend college in the United States through her remarkable success in the venture capital and technology industries- with dynamic and engaging prose. She deftly combines specific, memorable anecdotes with useful advice in myriad areas. I especially appreciated her honest coverage of the numerous turning points in her career and insights into her decision-making process. Her positive, can-do attitude is truly inspiring. Read this book and give a copy to a friend who would also appreciate it!

Important and inspirational lessons for all, for business and life
A lot of the great attributes and accolades for Power UP have already been said in these reviews but I want to add my own unique perspective and thoughts. I also wish to emphasize up front that Yesil’s book is filled with valuable tips and information not normally found in everyday business books - it’s a rich resource for any student or those in the workplace, or desiring to enter the workplace. What really touched me in Power UP! was not just the stories of the 27 women Magdalena interviewed, not just her amazing and fun personal stories of how she persevered, powered through situations and powered up her fearlessness, but the stories of her mother and father and the life lessons they instilled in her. Yesil’s parents provided a solid, loving foundation of intellect, trust, and freedom for her to dream, explore and make mistakes. Yesil learned and applied discipline, fierce resiliency, ‘unflappable’ self esteem and confidence which provided a beacon for her to navigate through life.I fell in love with Magdalen’s father in the first chapter with his powerful yet gentle support and unbound confidence in his daughter’s dreams and goals. He was able to tell his young, precious little girl that she would survive in the roughest part of Chicago, living in the United States all alone where she had never been before. My heart first ached then burst with elation for Magdalena’s incredibly talented mother, who like so many females, prioritized everyone else's needs over her own. She utilized her linguistic talents (seven languages!) to enrich people’s lives everyday through connection, laughter, joy and wisdom in her first job, and with it her independence at the age of 63!. What a magnificent woman - she makes us realize that it is never too late to get started nor to be a positive force in the lives of others. This is an important book for people of all ages, creeds, and race; for educators of children and adults, for parents, workers, managers and entrepreneurs - not just young girls and women.Power UP! is a lesson for us to believe in ourselves and persevere through hardships. It’s a lesson for all citizens in our society to work together to help make certain that our children and neighbors are provided the opportunity to shine. Parents and peers are a critical component in providing a positive influence in our lives and careers so that everyone wins. I hope readers come away with the inspiration to be a candle for and within ourselves, and to share this light with others to brighten lives.

Read POWER UP asking “How each concept maps into my own career goals” – you’ll gain much.
POWER UP: HOW SMART WOMEN WIN IN THE NEW ECONOMY is a refreshing approach which confirms many of my experiences and helps me to adjust steps forward. Indeed we women want to be recognized for our abilities and achievements and I for one am not looking for special privileges just because of our gender. As a woman scientist in a national laboratory, I'm more in the environment of expanding knowledge-for-the-sake-of-knowledge with the hope that it fuels practical applications. Profit-making is not in my career’s equation, nevertheless the life-experiences, work-place examples, and principles that Magdalena draws on from her own and other women’s experiences are applicable to me whether to confirm my way of navigating my career, or providing new ideas of how to manage in my own work-place culture even in the twilight of my career. The pearls of insights that Magdalena brings from her experiences are applicable to women as well as men and people from all walks of life. As a teenage immigrant to the USA myself, Magdalena’s own story and how she navigated through her life, causes me to remember to be thankful for how “being the other” has shaped and strengthened my drive to succeed. Allowing the “being the other” to shape our resolve to succeed could apply to new immigrants, to women in a workspace dominated by men, to men in a workspace dominated by women, to anyone for any reason. Difficulties are going to happen, but looking to the past should be only so as to learn from it and to apply lessons to moving forward. Allowing ourselves and others to make mistakes, but to learn and make changes as a result is an important part of career and character building. To summarize this book in one sentence: It really does not matter what walk of like you are in or coming from, if you read this book with the mentality of “how does this experience or that concept in the book map into my own experiences and career goals”, you will gain much from it.

Bought Second Hand but it was BRAND NEW!!
Amazing seller, received it within a few days. It was advertised as second hand but when received was absolutely brand new. It was just probably sitting on the factory shelf for some time and that was how it was described in the descriptions but still I didn't expect it to be this good. Will not hesitate to buy from this seller again if they have the books I'm looking for. Paid all up £4 and the postage was more than the book!Haven't started on the actual book but book reviews are always difficult as everyone has different tastes and expectations. Just rating the seller here, who was 5 stars!

I’d definitely recommend it to anyone who believes in an equal world and who believes can make a contribution at their workplace. The book provides hands-on advice and compelling stories and case studies that are definitely useful to put all these tips into practice. 100% recommend it.
