Top 7 tips I discovered: Best food list, supplements, and insights
Hi all. I found this to be Dr. Mercola’s most comprehensive work. I summarize my big takeaways from this book - including what people here have been asking about 1) supplements 2) a summary of the book and 3) the biggest points.First, as you might guess from the title, I learned a lot about how our cells - and especially our mitochondria - play a big role in our energy levels. My doc already recommended I take KPAX Immune from Stanford U. for my fatigue, which overlaps with Mercola's mito supplement regimen, below, (whew) but we all need more than that. Our digestive system breaks down food into metabolites. Mitochondria are the little engines inside our cells that turn metabolites into a storable fuel called ATP. When they work well, we feel alert and strong; when they don’t, we get tired and run down.Mercola explains how what we EAT is a big, big deal. The details in these chapters are indispensable in my opinion but here's the gloss: Low in simple sugars, high in healthy fats. Excess carbs and sugars produce extra waste; no bueno. Healthy fats, like those from avocados or nuts, are the base materials for our body to produce hormones, which signal all sorts of processes. Mercola explains how protein takes more energy for your body to break down, which is great if you are watching your weight, and also prevents muscle loss as we age. Boom.Top foods: Wild-Caught Fatty Fish, Organic Leafy Greens, Cruciferous Vegetables, Avocados, Nuts and Seeds, Berries, Fermented Foods, Pasture-Raised Eggs, Grass-Fed Meats, Coconut Oil, Extra Virgin Olive Oil, and Bone Broth.Fasting. (I know it sounds terrible just wait). Most of us already do this when we sleep at night we just don't call it fasting. Intermittent fasting is simply extending that period a bit more (eat dinner early and/or breakfast late) - not as frightening as it sounds. Banger benefits - allows your cells to repair themselves. This process, autophagy, helps remove damaged parts from the cells. Regular fasting may help you improve energy levels too.Movement is another powerful tool. Activities like high-intensity interval training (HIIT) not only build muscle but also signal your body to heal. Just brisk walking can help, especially when combined with the above.Sunlight. Natural light, particularly near-infrared light, helps activate enzymes in the cells.Supplements can also help. For instance, CoQ10 is a nutrient that helps mitochondria make energy. Magnesium is vital - 50% of people are deficient!! Other supplements like alpha-lipoic acid, acetyl-L-carnitine, and N-acetyl cysteine help reduce cellular damage, help fight fatigue and boost immunity. If you don't want to buy dozens of these separately check out Stanford's KPAX Immune, Elysum Signal, and Integrative's Mitonutrients (that's mito- not micro-)Finally, processed foods, pesticides, and even certain types of radiation from everyday devices can stress our cells. Pretty simple overview here is keep a clean diet and limit exposure to unnecessary toxins.Dr. M’s approach to cellular health is about combining all of the above, not just one diet or pill or hack . I recommend reading the whole book, as there is far more detail than I can possibly cover here. Hope this helps get you started.

Insightful- proceed with Caution
While this is well written and accessible, I want to caution people that if they have struggles with these recommendations, they may have a more complex metabolic or biologic issue on board like mold or MCAS which releases great amounts of histamine. SNPS, genetic glitches, which may Interfere with folate metabolism or sulphur metabolism, can get in the way of many of these well-meaning interventions which work for most people.Specifically though I would like to note that on page 254 it says to, "Soak your white rice overnight, to remove impurities" but I have seen research which recommends boiling rice for 5 minutes in water and then replacing the water and continuing to cook, will significantly lower the arsenic content which is most concerning. With my mold sensitivity, I also believe that it lowers the mold count even though I'm using an organic product.Adding some white rice and small amount of carbohydrate to my diet was helpful - I just have to eat it at the end of my meal after my protein.Thank you for writing this, Doctor.

Another five star book from Dr Mercola
Dr. Mercola does his research carefully and writes caringly. This is evident again in this new book.As new solid information comes in Dr. M is not stuck trying to defend a previous protocol but rather invites new scientifically proven information into his advice for readers. His knowledge grows because he is forever curious. Dr. Mercola is probably a genius in the field of medicine but also in determining the root cause of medical issues. I appreciate his willingness to share his expertise with us.When people say that he is making money selling his supplements etc. the answer is: so what? Why shouldn't he? He gives his information out for free daily which very often includes methods that will benefit the reader that he has no financial interest in. For example he suggests the optimal way of getting vitamin D is from sunlight. There are hundreds of other examples: Getting proper rest, doing Kaatsu, certain exercises, proper nutrition, methylene blue, etc. This genius has taken MSM hits for so many years in order to bring us the truth. We should all applaud his tenacity and thank our lucky stars that he does this.'Your guide to Cellular Health' is the best new source of his expertise and I highly recommend it for anyone interested in preserving your health while perhaps determining the root cause of your illness.

Great Info
Dr Mercola gives a lot of information in this book on taking control of your health. He breaks things down so you understand the why’s of what is happening to your health and how you can take control and help yourself get better and healthier. I have been following Dr Mercola for several years and like the fact that he doesn’t blindly follow the medical system like the majority of the medical doctors do. He is truly looking to help people get healthier and better and live their best life no matter what their age is. If you are looking to change your health for the better then I highly recommend this book. If you are looking for a quick fix your are looking in the wrong place as there is no quick fixes when it comes to your health. This is a lifelong process that you have to be vigilant at as our food system is loaded with horrible so called food items that we all need to steer clear of. Take control of your health and you will never regret it. Better health to all.
