Toyama Koshihikari Japanese Rice 5 kg

This is the best and truly authentic Japanese sourced sushi rice available in the UK. Most brands are written all over with Japanese writing, but if you check the manufacture it is usually USA or Italy.The rice is perfect for sushi and sea-weed rolls ( gimbap) as well as for various Katsu dishes or just Kimchi + fried.The rice is sticky to the chopstick but melts apart in the mouth.Only downside is that is is quite pricey. But worth it for the quality.This is a proper Japonica rice from Japan. The nearest lower cost rice to it would be Korean or Vietnamese Japonica (Yum Asia)

Excellent rice with good money and sweet taste

The rice has a bit of a smell when you cook it, but this does not affect taste at all.For cooking, I do the following.For 250g of uncooked riceWash the rice well so the water runs clearDrain and add to a panAdd 280-300ml of cold waterBring to the boilmix the rice with a fork to prevent sticking to the bottomadd a lid to the pan and reduce to a simmer for 10 minsremove from the heat and leave for 45mins with the lid onserveThis gives me great fluffy sushi-grade rice that takes on sushi seasoning well and is sticky enough to form into any shape you want.Over all it is expensive but very tasty and worth the extra cost

The best rice ever. I will happily eat this for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Though this rice does benefit from some extra time to prepare. Wash your rice at least 3 times until the water is clear and then allow to soak for at least 20 minutes but no more than an hour. I have found 40 minutes to be ideal. Then into the rice cooker with a pinch of salt in the water. Allowing it to finish cooking and steam for a further 5 minutes past the cook time on your rice cooker. The ideal water to rice ratio for those who don't use the knuckle measurement is 1 cup of rice to 1.25 of water if you soak the rice beforehand. This give you fluffy, beautifully fragrant rice that makes a perfect accompaniment for any meal, or on its own. I tend to keep it simple with the rice served in a bowl with an egg, either a raw egg yolk mixed in or a soft boiled or poached egg and a little soy sauce.I will say, if you're looking for rice for fried rice this isn't it. You need medium groan rice such as jasmine rice for that. Otherwise this rice is good for everything.Because of gut problems I eat a lot of this rice as I find it easy to digest but filling and, unlike basmati which is so popular in the UK, it actually has flavour on its own, without needing any spices.This rice should be a welcome addition to anyone's pantry.

This rice requires vigorous washing before you put it in the rice cooker. Extremely starchy. TBH, at this price tag I was expecting better.....EDIT: Having finished the whole bag, in retrospect this was actually a very decent rice (in terms of flavour and texture). Certainly better than the "Japanese" rice that comes from Italy or Vietnam. Also, works very well for sushi.

I use to cook rice a great rice cooker from Coocko that of course make the difference on the rice taste, but this rice is amazong, the fragrance, smell and consistency is second to none.A bit pricey but well whorty, tomeTo time price is down and i snap 2-3 bags of rice
