We purchased these in March of 2025 based on the reviews. We liked the fact that we felt it was an upgrade from having to change batteries periodically. However, a month after installing them, we started having false alarms. It started with one of them repeatedly beeping 3 times in the middle of the night. The first one that started doing this was in my 4 year olds bedroom. This cause him to wake up crying and was preventing the whole house from sleeping. After trying to troubleshoot the best we could with no clear directions- we were forced to remove the smoke detector and place it in a different room so our son could fall back asleep. By the next morning, it had resolved itself. Fast forward two months and we had the same issue but this time it was in our daughter’s room and of course it happened in the middle of the night. We repeated the same procedure and were again forced to remove it for the night. Fast forward 3 months and it’s the same issue. Only this one was on the opposite side of the house. Since we purchased this product in March of 25’, I decided to call Amazon customer support at 11:15pm when we were woken up for the 3rd false alarm. They informed me we were outside of the return window (which I knew) and told me I had to contact the manufacturer customer support- which was fine. Amazon gave me the manufacturer support phone number and said they’re open 24/7 and to call them. They would help navigate this problem. I no sooner hung up with Amazon and attempted to call Kidde customer support. Hoping someone would answer to help with this issue, I quickly found out they have normal east coast business hours. After doing a little online research, I found out this is actually a common issue for Kidde products. They regularly have false alarms, issues with sensitivity, etc. Since they are hardwired with 10-year battery backup, it put me and my wife at ease thinking we made the right choice to protect our family. That couldn’t be further from the truth. With them being faulty, especially at the most inconvenient times (children sleeping) we have come to the conclusion that we made a mistake buying from the company. We purchase this product in hopes that it would keep out family protected and safe. Only for it to cause a headache and cause trauma for our young children. DON’T BUY! If I could leave zero stars I would.

I recently bought two 4packs (8 alarms total) and replaced every single alarm in my house. My previous alarms were older generation Kidde's so I thought they would be plug and play. I was wrong and I did not know they sold the adapters so I had to rewire every single alarm. The first few weeks of having them, there were a few false alarms. Turns out that the hardwiring on these is very sensitive and if they have a weak connection, it makes them act crazy. Each time a false alarm happened, I would identify which alarm triggered it (blinking red light) and I would go through and realign/tighten the wiring. After about three times. We seemed to get past the issue and they have been trouble free since. Side note - the green stanby light on these is quite bright and can be potenitally bothersome in bedrooms to certain people at night time

I just found out that smoke detectors must be changed every 10 years. My old Kidde hardwired smoke detectors have been working perfectly for 15 years, no false chirps or beeps. I do change the 9V battery every year which really helps. But even with maintenance, the parts can fail and render the smoke detectors inoperable and inaccurate. Your insurance company might also refuse or reduce your payout in the event of a fire if you have old detectors. My search for replacements was pretty easy since Kidde is well known and well respected, and I've had no issues with them for the past 15 years. I purchased the hardwired interconnectable version with the 10-year battery backup. The thought of not having to change the 9V batteries each year and not climb up and down ladders was a huge motivator. The entire process of taking down the old smoke detector pictured on the right and putting up the new one on the left took a few minutes for each unit. Even though it's essentially the same company and detector, they did change the plug and mounting bracket. Although the mounting bracket looks the same, the new one is much thinner, and the new smoke detector will not fit on the old mounting bracket. To make it even easier, I also purchased the Kidde adapter so I didn't need to rewire any of the units with the new plug. So I took down the old unit, took down the old mounting bracket by loosening two screws, installed the new mounting bracket, and installed the new smoke detector with the new plug adapter. Again, about 2 minutes for each unit. I did read the instructions and did follow them. The one note to save you time and trouble is to make sure you activate the battery BEFORE you plug the unit into the wiring harness. You will hear a beep when you activate the battery either by mounting it to the bracket, which I did before I installed the bracket on the ceiling, or with a screw driver prior to mounting it to the bracket. After you hear the beep, then plug it in and mount it to the bracket. If you're looking for an easy replacement for your hardwired, interconnectable smoke detectors that require no maintenance for 10 years, this is the one!

Had to replace all our smoke detectors. Thought if we purchased the same brand, it would be easy. But had to do a little wiring work to make them work.

Was nervous when I first installed them since a couple randomly chirped for the first 6 hours. Afterwards they've been mostly great. Even tested them out once by overheating some bacon one morning testing both the smoke trigger and silencing features. Would give 5 stars but one failed after 9 months of use. I've been using them for a bit over a year now. I'll update the review if others give out.

I should have listened to the bad reviews. I bought eight of these smoke alarms in October 2025 to replace all of the older ones in the house. They are battery backup (but you can't remove or change the battery) and hardwired. It's now 6 months later and so far, I've had to disable two of them because they were giving off false alarms. First off, it's scary for an alarm just to randomly start going off for no reason, but then you can't shut them off. Even after you detach them from being hardwired, the battery takes over and they just beep and beep and you can't clear them. I tried for over a 1/2 hour to get one of them to stop beeping - pushing the button, blowing in them to make sure there was no dust, etc. The only way to stop them from beeping is to get a screwdriver and turn this red screw on the back which disables them and now they are no good and I'm out money and they are expensive. They are supposed to last 10 years. Even worse, next time one goes off, I'll just assume it's a false alarm and who knows if it will be a real fire. They're not reliable.

These were purchased as replacements to our over 10year old original smoke detectors. It was easy to convert the wire from old to new with no problem and they fit perfectly. Shortly after installation I was cooking and created a bit more smoke then anticipated and the detectors went off right away.

Hard wired with Battery backup. Easily installed. Great price for 2.
