not the best for stone work
Detailed anatomy is helpful altho I can get that from an anatomy book, I was looking for assistance in stone carving specifically and this book guides the clay and wood carver primarily. Helpful in making clay maquettes for stone carving however.

The author is not just a wood whittler - his expertise extends to other disciplines, and a woodworker with more limited artistic exposure like myself finds that very helpful. Erudite, engaging, and lucid, this author has done a great job here.

Very disappointed
I have been working with the figure in wood for some time and am always on the lookout for new insights. The content of this book is very stylized a bit elementary. The cover is the best image in the book.

Low level mistake - a right hand attached to a left arm
It is really a good carving book based on detailed anatomy knowlodge, very academic - except for chapter 6: The Hand and Arm.The project showed in this chapter - Named as The Hand of God - has a right hand attached to a left arm.

Je suis plutôt déçu de cet ouvrage que je trouve mal exploité, mal illustré....ce n'est pas un livre que je conseillerai si on me demandait mon avis.
