Spinnaker Seafood Gumbo Soup 400 g (Pack of 6)

This morning I opened a can of my favourite soup and emptied into a bowl. On licking the spoon I thought "that's funny, tastes a bit bland", but went on and heated it up. However, a couple of spoonsful confirmed the impression - the soup has lost its kick and now has a dull, bland flavour, and is also a different colour, having taken on a sickly pink hue. So I looked at the can and sure enough the recipe has been changed. The list of ingredients is shorter, it now contains a lot of chopped tomatoes (if they were present before, it was in much smaller quantities and they were unobtrusive), and the salt content has been halved. Worst of all, though the seafood content is allegedly still the same, I noticed little or no lobster in the soup, and the shrimps seemed entirely tasteless in this new formulation.Previously I would have agreed with the most positive comments for this soup, but sadly I've just consumed my final can.

I personally preferred the taste of the seafood gumbo over the bouillabaisse. The consistency of this one is slightly more thick, and it has a more smooth texture and savoury taste. It can be elevated by adding your own ingredients. It also is good value for money as one can truly does make for a solid meal.

Good soup, flavour and texture

As someone who does not particularly like tinned soup because of the metallic taste, I give this one 5 stars. It is really good. I made a full tin first time, and really could not finish it. So as they say, two portions is just about right!A note to the manufacturer : Don't put white print on a pale green label! I wanted to read the contents, but could not see them. Small print is useless, but white on pale green?

Spinnaker is a good company for fish products. This 'sefood gumbo' was no exeption.

Best seafood Gumbo this side of Louisiana, nice and thick, splendid taste....
