I never spend more than $8 for an umbrella. I had bought another umbrella for $15 that look pretty heavy duty and had thick aluminum frame. It worked well for a while until extremely strong wind complete turn the canopy inside-out and left-side-right. I was going to go back to cheap umbrella again but I kinda missed having strong umbrellas. So I bit the bullet and bought this one.This came as a surprise. The build quality is exceptional. I have tried using it in moderate wind and the canopy didn't even bother to move one bit. The umbrella open automatically and the heavy duty frame make me feel like I was holding a steel bar but without the weight.I love this thing and I hope it will last me a long time. If not, it's got life time warranty anyways. Still I will buy another one even if it doesn't have any warranty.

When I received these umbrellas, I was pleasantly surprised with the quality. They exceeded my expectations. The main shaft is thick and strong (appears to be a fiberglass). The handle is beefy, padded, and non slip. The spring that expands the umbrella at the push of a button is strong and authoritative. The fabric of the main canopy is thick and opaque with a metallic looking coating on the underside, and it is waterproof... water does not soak through it even when rain drops are sitting on it for extended periods.BUT... it has one major flaw that makes it practically unusable, or at a very minimum will shorten it's usable lifespan dramatically. It's Achilles Heel is that the spoke that holds out all the radial shafts is made of a cheap, very brittle plastic that breaks very easily. I bought 12 of these umbrellas for our office and the very first time I opened one of the umbrellas as they are intended to be used (with the push of the button), every single arm of the spoke snapped immediately. After that, I carefully opened the rest of them to make sure they were functional, holding them back so they would open slowly instead of springing open to an abrupt stop. Then the following day, I actually used one in the rain and when I shook it open and closed to knock off the water droplets before entering a taxi, two of the spoke arms broke.I can imagine if these umbrellas had been used heavily over the period of a couple of years and finally the plastic was breaking down, but this happened within the first couple of days after only opening and closing the umbrellas 2-3 times at most. A 16-17% failure rate within days of purchase is unacceptable. And I imagine that failure rate would be even worse if I had been using them normally instead of babying them.Hopefully the manufacturer will listen to this feedback and improve the spoke so it is much more durable. If they come out with a gen2 model, I will definitely try it out, and would be extremely satisfied with the umbrella if it didn't break all the time. But as it is, I can't recommend these umbrellas at all and will be returning all of them before they too break.

I actually ordered 3, one for myself and 2 family members for Christmas. The colors are gorgeous, except for the White/Sliver. I thought is was going to be more Silver, but it's not, it's really just white but I kept it anyway.Easy to open, large, sturdy and overall just beautiful!!!

I have seen many people using these umbrellas to protect from the UV rays and decided to try one. I searched the site and found this Rainlax which seemed to meet my needs. I ordered it up, got it in a color to match my bag (red). Once it arrived I looked it over and on the next day opened it, placed it on my cart and set in out in the sun. After a few moments I walked out and got into the shade created by the umbrella and found it to be somewhat cooler than being out in the sun plus I didn't need to squint due to the brightness. When I opened it, it was an easy one button release and it popped right up. ( Having already removed it from the nylon dust cover) I looked it over to be certain there were no obvious defects in the product, rolled it back up easily and placed it in the umbrella compartment in my bag. It fit nicely. Also when I opened it the handle fit in my umbrella holder on the push cart; it fit snugly and was not blown out of the holder by the breezes.

I wanted these umbrellas for our Arlington LAdies to use at funerals at Arlington National Cemetery, specifically for our Navy Arlington Ladies, ...all volunteers. Sometimes when the weather is very rainy, the families do not have umbrellas with them....but also the Arlington Ladies groups have to provide their own. At least twice a year the umbrellas we Navy Arlington Ladies use, disappear. This was the case in my ordering the lost replacement umbrellas with the extra wide and wind proof umbrellas. What a surprise when they arrived and the underside of each umbrella was bright silver....this may have been my mistake...but I am not convinced. For Military funerals at Arlington, the umbrellas, with the wind protection need to be black both on top and underneath. Perhaps these would be good for hoteld and restaurants; but not for our purpose. I will buy the locally at a store so I can verify what I am buying is what we need and want.

Before this umbrella I have only had the small travel umbrellas. After yet one more of those broke I came to Amazon to shop. I saw the bigger umbrellas and decided to give one a try. This is BIG, which totally delighted me at first. I figured I would be dry and so would all my packages. What I found out - at least for me - is that this umbrella is heavy, and I found it difficult to close. It was much harder to get into the car after me than the small umbrellas. Now, this particular umbrella is beautifully made, great quality. I think I will really enjoy having it for walking the dog on a rainy day. But for running errands or going to appts, I came back and bought another travel umbrella, hopefully one of better quality than the ones I've bought at the discount stores.
