Good primer, too dark for finish
Tl;dr I used this as a sanding sealer. Amber not recommended as a final coat.Full review:I made a 2# cut with denatured alcohol in a mason jar. Without a stir plate it wouldn't fully dissolve over night, but after adding the stir bar on the second batch I left it over night and got it fully dissolved. If you don't fully dissolve it, just use a paint strainer and transfer to another jar, or else you'll get tiny flakes on your coat. I diluted to 1# cut with more denatured alcohol and foam-brushed on birch plywood. You can see that it's quite dark and leaves lines where it overlaps. I would not suggest using this for final finish. The dark amber is too dark and difficult to get even coverage. I painted over it with cabinet enamel paint and got a great finish. My process was 1# cut shellac (I think .7 to .8 lb/gal cut is ideal), 2 light coats of paint, then 220 grit sanding, 320 grit sanding, final coat of paint.

Prompt shipment
Looks like a good buy. Packaged in a strong plastic hermetically sealed and resealable bag.Have not mixed any with alcohol yet but will shortly and update. Nice to have it so I can mix just what I will use. The off the shelf stuff is great but it's shelf life is not forever and the lid of the can really get clogged up and hard to reseal. This will bypass that as I will only mix what I need.

Excellent wood finish at a reasonable price
Couldn't be happier with these shellac flakes. They're simple to dissolve and applying a few layers to wood only a few minutes apart will give you a smooth, glossy finish.

The Universal Finish and Primer
Shellac is simply the best wood (or other things) finish ever and this is the best Shellac I’ve yet found. Non-toxic (Edible actually: it’s the coating on M&M’s) dries in seconds. Almost as Durable as all the treble and toxic finishes that take days to cure. And you can use it as a universal primer. If it wasn’t a non-patentable naturally occurring substance it would have been heralded as the greatest invention of the 20th century... Just saying. I’m currently shellacking everything in my house...now let’s see where did that pesky chihuahua go to...

I would not hesitate to repurchase this shellac in the future...
I used this to seal some southern yellow pine to allow for more even dye staining. It did exactly that. This shellac dissolved surprisingly fast despite not grinding the flakes. Some of it stuck to the bottom of the jar but after using a stir stick to break it up, it dissolved along with the rest of it and by the next morning it was 100% liquid. Super smooth application.

Easy to use and store.
Been wanting for making my own formulations for wood and metal and is working well for that purpose.

Some suppliers charge the same price for 8 ounces.
At this price, this is a really good deal.
