This is an updated outlet tester, no longer have to look at 3 lights and read the diagram. This has a easy to see readout. It's also good for checking the voltage at the outlet. It will read and then hold so you can unplug it and see what the readings were, without needing to get down near the ground to see the screen. The screen is nice and bright and clear.

This is really easy to use and leaves no room for interpretation. I have a Klein Tools one and this one is just easier to read and also I like that it displays the time of how long it took a GFCI to trip during a test.

Got this after discovering they exist (only had ever seen the ones with no display, just the neons). It gives you a lot of information in a clear way. If the wiring is wrong or right. The time it takes for the GFCI to actually trip (making it more useful than the non display testers), so you can see if maybe it's time to replace one. If all is good, Green, if there's any issues, it turns the display orange. I like that it holds its values in case you have to plug it in an outlet that you may not necessarily be able to see the display right on.

This product works well to detect incorrectly wired outlet but it shows “Err” for GFCI tests that meet the UL spec for GFCI. I have a couple of simple devices that show if outlets are wired incorrectly but I don’t have a GFCI tester so I ordered this tester.I am surprised that no other reviewers have tested the GFCI function in this device. I live in an older home but even I have a few GFCI protected circuits. I first tested my oldest one which is 35 years old. The GFCI test showed that it took 141 mS to trip the circuit. This seemed a bit high to me and since the outlet is 35 years old I decided to buy a new one to replace it. After replacing the outlet the test reported 46 mS to trip the outlet, much better but still showing “Err”.I decided to find out what the standard is for GFCI. UL sets the standard and it varies with amperage. The device shows it is using 7.6 mA to test and according to the standard that current should trip the breaker in less than 4 seconds, so my GFCI devices are fine. It’s the tester that is showing a false error. The documentation explains that “Err” will be displayed when the trip time is greater than 25 mS. According to UL that trip time is for a current of 624 mA, which is way more than this tester uses. Another thing to note is that UL sets the maximum trip current to 6 mA, not 7.6, so won’t really tell you if the GFCI outlet meets the specification.So my take on this tester is that it seems to measure trip times using a low current of 7.6 mA but it displays an error leading a user to assume the GFCI device being tested fails. I will just have to ignore the error now that I know that 4 seconds is the threshold that should be used., This is not great and I suspect that most users will not know that the testing device is displaying a bogus error. This bug could be fixed in firmware and I hope that the manufacturer updates the firmware.I know this is a lot of technical information and most users won’t take the time to track down the relevant standards, but I hope my research is not in vain and that some of you appreciate my efforts.

This is probably the fanciest voltage tester I've ever used. It's easy to use and gives great detail about the outlet being tested. At first I was a little skeptical that a tool as inexpensive as this one would be helpful at trouble shooting outlets but the fact that it gives amperage, voltage, and time to trip info, this tool is well worth the cost.

Purchased this to check sockets in garage, accurate results displayed and located fault.

Piccolo e robusto tester per misurare la tensione, la polarità e la dispersione delle prese. Ben realizzato e robusto, semplice da usare, basta inserirlo in una presa. Se il display rimane verde tutto funziona come dovrebbe, se invece si illumina di rosso è possibile capire cosa non vada nella fase delle presa, se ha il filo di terra, se è libera o invertita. Lo trovo utilissimo, soprattutto per un appassionato di HiFi come me per vedere se le elettroniche sono tutte nella fase giusta e che non ci siano disturbi o polarità sbagliate. Lo consiglio caldamente.
