Ardent Reel Kleen Fishing Reel Cleaner

Works great on cleaning up the old reels I pick up at yard sales. Removes both badly dried out paste-type grease as well as oil-type lubricants that have gone to varnish. So far it hasn't damaged the older plastics nor the fragile lettering paint on reels. Removes light tarnish/corrosion on aluminum and brass parts. Works nicely to clean/shine up chrome as well, with the minor caution that you don't soak chromed items for long as this product will eventually eat away at it.I’ve also used this to free up seized bearings on vintage beer signs. One or two spritzes and a nearly seized bearing starts turning again; a shake in a jar with this stuff and they were cleaned out completely of the old grease. I've also used it to wipe down and remove years of grunge from second-hand tools. I highly recommend buying the larger 16oz bottle because you'll find multiple uses for this stuff.

I would have given Ardent reel cleaner a 5 star rating except for 1 reason. It cleaned my reels and rods well and removed old grease and oil and lake algae and muck but you cannot get this product on your skin so you need to wear nitrite or latex gloves etc, of which I was not aware of because it was not mentioned in the description from Ardent and it should be!!! So read warnings on their packaging before use! More expense and time to either order gloves or to go get them at a local store just to clean on your reels and rods, that's if you don't have some of these gloves already, and most won't! So keep this in mind before using this cleaner. Otherwise it's good stuff. Good luck anglers!!!

Does what it is supposed to do

Note the important warnings: Use in a WELL ventilated area (outside, for me) and dispose of the cleaning rags as you would with any volatile solvent. It works very well, cleans out gunk and crud, does not damage the surfaces on my old Hardy reels, and definitely seems to have left the protective film it advertises.

I've used a lot of different products when cleaning reels. Ardent has come out with some great products and their reel kleen cleaner has been working great. I clean quite a few reels on a weekly basis; some of my own and a bunch from friends in family in the area. I also like the kits they are selling with the reel kleen cleaner inside with other items.
